I noticed that, not expecting anything crazy but it’s hard to find a lot of info on them.

Yea exactly, there’s way too many variations it seems. I’ve yet to come across my exact bottle…and don’t expect to. Online I saw about the same, anywhere from $600-2000 lol

you know each Knob creek all seem to taste a bit differently. and I've had a few bottles. I often end up with the Kentucky derby bottles

I lucked out finding a store just by being having a polite conversation with an employee.

So I was in a store and an employee (turns out is the manager) asked if I was looking for anything special. Had a good conversation and he eventually mentioned what will be on the next truck and when it gets there. The truck is weekly and he will gladly say what will be on the next one a day or two out. There is a handful of us that line up a little before it arrives and buy harder to get bottles for very close to MSRP. It’s mostly been along the line of Blantons, Weller SR, Eagle Rare but there have been some better ones too. Fortunately I can be there and back to work on on an early lunch break. Started going there for other things and he appreciates the business, always make a point to say hi when I see him. Also always make a point to say I appreciate him and will see him soon on truck day.

Haven’t scored huge but being a polite and friendly regular goes a long way.

also introduce your partner or spouse. my wife one year at Christmas, got a bunch of little airplane sized tasters for the old stocking. They were all amazing. and got a couple of my favorites from "Santa" too. when I asked my wife if she had been paying attention she said, she was talking to the guy i always talk to and said its for my husband, and mentioned my name, and that is when a whole list of things I like and similar were offered to her. since then that guy always gets my money, and I've also gotten a few calls when something has shown up I might like. and has even taken a payment over the phone. to hold a bottle

Got @Hook78 'd up with some samples a while back. Having the Jack Dannels 10y tonight.

    Honestly?

Pass. Good nose, completely average 5/10 palate, watery mouthfeel, finish is way hotter than it should be for 97 proof and weak. JDSBBP is smoother at 30 proof points higher; I continue to be amazed at the delta between barrel proof Jack and all other variants.

I'll skip this one if I ever see it on the shelf.

Agreed. I like me some Michter's.

I've been drinking Jameson for 15 years and have never tried Jameson Black Barrel, and I don't know why...

Compass Box discontinued this bottle years ago. I grabbed the last 2 bottles I could find and stashed them away. Decided to crack one open tonight. Oaky vanilla, creamy, slight brine/peat and that petrichor quality you get with some scotches. Which I had found more.

I was sitting here thinking about what the most reliably delicious shelf bottles have been for me, and what three bottles, years from now, when I’ve drank through this stupid collection with family and friends, I could enjoy as my only sippers until the end of my days.

I’m gonna go ahead and say Michter’s Sour Mash since I can get it often enough.

    RR10. It’s just so good.

Still considering #3. Baker’s 7 is becoming a favorite though.

    That's an interesting thought experiment.

If we're talking just bourbons I'd probably go:

    Wild Turkey 101 (Obv)
RR SiB (I see a pattern)
    KC Single Barrel Reserve

Depending on how proofy I feel at any given moment.

Yeah, I’ve found that I sometimes love proof but there are certain bottles I always love…

I've been all over the board lately.

I had a barrel proof run a couple nights ago, a couple nights before that it was all about the mellow/light 86 proof Irish and Japanese drams.

I think it's just another facet of the variety I love about this hobby.
