It was the first camping trip my gf has ever taken. Ever. And she takes an hour to put on effing makeup. But she was great, didnt complain. Said she would go again.....Now. i DID have my joolca shower and a solar set up that ran her dyson hair thing a ma bob. But i wanted to make it as comfortable as possible for her.

    A defining moment.
    Good man.
Been there, done that, some make it, some don't.

@Taco_gloom - any pics of that flex tape solution?
Heading to the NW soon and interested, just in case.

A friend hooked me up with one.

Okay after a single night with the Hest, I personally do not think it is more comfortable than the Exped. The obvious pro is that it does not require inflation but that can easily be a con since you can control the firmness with an Exped. The Hest was pretty stiff and I woke up multiple times with body aches from the mattress. I am also a side sleeper though if that means anything. I'll have to get a few more nights in the Hest, but my initial reaction is it isn't worth it.

    Edit-
Can't tell if I was bottoming out the mattress. I'm pretty average (5'11" 180lbs)

ive used a megamat and I dont think something more comfortable exists. it takes a little bit to figure out what firmness you want, but after that its super comfy. I also sleep on my side.

Excellent news. Looks like a fairly straightforward installation.

I will be curious to find out how much more difficult it will be to close the tent with the insulation in place.
    Anybody tried it out yet?

I saw that, and since I don't keep the matress or bedding in place, I am hoping it doesn't require too much "additional force to close the tent".
I have developed a process that makes it relatively easy for me with an empty platform.
When it's snowy and icy it takes extra care to clear the side channels.
I'll be interested to read about gnardoggie's experience before I purchase the insulation.

Don't recall seeing any mention of this yet...

Tacoma bed mount for diesel heater - 2nd and 3rd Gen. Super Pacific is having a workshop install day Nov 11th in Portland (how to install, no mention of offering them as an option). Fabricator has a SP as well.
Should get notification if still subscribed to SP notices.

I can't imagine that heater is going to like living there for long covered in mud, snow and slush. Good luck little heater, you're going to need it

I agree. I don't want a permanent heater installed in my truck.
But I do like the diesel heaters.

I have been using the Mr. Buddy Heater with a small propane tank.
It worked well to heat the camper both in the evening and in the morning.
There are several drawbacks with the propane set-up: size, combustion in the living area, and moisture.

So this winter I will be using my new All-in-one diesel heater and setting it on the ground outside the truck.
I've been learning a lot about the diesel heaters and will do some of the recommended modifications (e.g. adding fuel line filters and wrapping the exhaust in insulating tape). I will run the heater off my Jackery.
Plan is to put a duct through the cubby on the passenger side.
Anybody doing this and have any recommendations?

you could just add a boat deckplate to your side door or through the bottom of the cubby for easy routing/covering when not in use

That's my plan: use a deck plate (4'' opening) in the bottom of the passenger side cubby.
Feed a short duct hose (3" diameter) through the opening to the heater below.
I'll use an insulating collar on the duct where it comes through the deck plate.

    Looks like a sturdy unit.
Where do you route the duct into the camper?
Do you have the heater uncovered? Any issues with snow/rain?

I'm thinking of putting my heater under the back of the truck on the ground.
I got a reasonably priced all-in one from Amazon.

    Hey all,
Two things I tried to search for and couldn’t find ideas:
    1. Anyone have any side hatch storage solutions besides the SP packs, looking for something similar for cheaper or something larger. My idea was a net or to modify packing cubes with cam straps or something

    2. Does anyone have cool uses for the rivnuts? Seems like I’m wasting potential not using that feature

    thanks!
Headed on a big SW trip after the Dec holidays with my simple setup. Stoked to be in it for a few weeks
