It sounds good on paper, but not in practice. Let’s use 5.56 as an argument. One mag at 15 bucks and 30 rounds at ~$0.40 per round. 27 bucks per week. Do that for 26 weeks (6months) and you have a grand total of 26 mags and 780 rounds and have spent just over 700 bucks. Who needs 26 magazines?

Unless you’re building a “standard” load out, you need no more than 10 mags. I’d suggest save the cash and buy bulk ammo every 4 months at the budget that allows the method above.

At least with buying bulk ammo you don’t pay for shipping with a good retailer. At the $700 for the 6 month plan above, you can almost buy 2 bulk 1000rd boxes of 556. Right now finding 556 at a decent price online is a bit tough though. I haven’t checked my local stores but at least at targetsports, 556 is not there unless you pay a premium for what’s left on their inventory.

I usually just chalk it up to the internet.

Most here that know about a combat load out don’t (or at least shouldn’t) come here expecting technical information. I have a feeling most here wouldn’t make it through their first patrol, raid, whatever.

    So I don’t think that’s the thing.

I think people are more just knee jerking in response to the annual government threats and world events so they can be in the in during, essentially, a grey/black market for firearms/accessories/ammo.

The horders of ammo, and reloading components…hoard. So they do not train. That typically seems to be the case.

That said, it could be argued if preparedness is your thing, a smart person would have plenty of reasons to cache things. At home, and beyond…

it’s an investment. Even the mags. Some people invest in gold and silver.
    Ammo - gold
    Mags - silver

You know some of us have had experience but it was either decades ago and I was fortunate enough not to have been in combat. Reading what some of the newer up to date procedures and taking what we see in the internet with a grain of salt.

Never, ever, heard anyone in a gun fight complain about having to much "ammo or mags"!!!! Ever tried to load empty mags during a gun fight??? When you run out of ammo ........... the fights over!!

Just call the helos and have them drop a few speedballs.:oldglory:

Im not against stocking up on mags/ammo. My theory is that I don’t need more than 10 mags for any firearm. I’m even okay with 10 for the rifle and a handful for each pistol. Now ammo on the other hand, if I fall below a few thousand rounds for each caliber, I’m getting low. I do try to shoot a lot (+1000 rounds a month) so the ammo shortages makes keeping a healthy supply kind of difficult if I want to maintain my practice.

i really should be getting into reloading but I haven’t had the time to dive into that bubble.

However, to contribute to this thread for the last 48 hrs of pew related goodies… a couple days ago the brown truck dropped off 2k rounds of 9mm and today they’re bringing 2k rounds of 223.

fyi: since ammo is somewhat hard to get right now, targetsports has wolf 556 in stock.

I bought a Vickers sling to compliment/swap out an existing Magpul MS4 QD. Deciding on which I like most and which ends up on my PCC. Oh, and finally upgraded to MBUS Pros.

Sure you're never going to need to use more than 7-10 magazines at any given time but they are wear items that can break or wear out. The idea behind stacking mags is to have spares for the future if standard capacity magazines ever get banned.

I try to have 15-20 mags for each gun I own. Many more AR mags because they are so versatile... I also live in a state actively trying to ban standard cap mags right now.

I think I’ve heard a few A gunners complain once or twice. Nobody likes to wear themselves out walking up a mountain to said fight with 100lbs of gear/ammo on them. Just to bound and frog leap their way through the op.

I mean even in worst case, if you’re 12 mags into a defensive position, and you haven’t gotten control of that shit or popped smoke, then you dun fucked up.

    Same crap everyone else got
I didn't buy it but I got this Burris fast fire for my mkiv and hated the big knob. I learned the vortex micros used the same footprint so I started looking at their mounts. They use a big knob too with the exception of this mount that used to be on the vortex sight. Sent a pic of it to them and asked where I can buy one. They sent one out for free. Vortex cs is probably the best I've ever seen.
