Why Toyota do this? Nav screen sucks

Not being a tech connoisseur or audiophile, I find the Nav works just fine. But I grew up poor in the 70's.

The 2024 Tacomas will give you an option to backwards and go back to cassette decks, CD player, and radio combo. This will come with an analog nav option of an Atlas. No subscription required.

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
I would actually prefer that over the PoS that came with it.

In fact, I've thought about replacing it with an el cheapo unit that's just AM/FM/Bluetooth. It would save me from having to sit there waiting for the warning message to clear before I start driving, just so I can navigate to the screen I want, but am not allowed to set as default

The Tacoma is the first vehicle I have owned with built in navigation. Seemed decent enough to me. I do have a Garmin RV navigation unit that has lifetime updates too so I use that for any trips.

I did want better sound output and control so I did upgrade the HU to a Kenwood DMX1057XR. I didn't feel the extra $$$ for the DNR1007XR with built in navigation was worth it. It didn't come with lifetime updates....

Sounds like your truck sucks, better sell it to me for cheap. Seriously though, this radio interface is totally fine. I’ve had a handful of times Bluetooth would connect without cycling the power in years of driving and zero other issues.

Why does everyone hate on the wireless charger? I rather like using mine.

My 2023 came without the tech package ‘cause that’s the way I wanted it. Apple car play works well, Apple Maps, Google maps, Waze are all available. Just finished installing the Taco Garage Multi Dash Mount (5 stars for this mod) so I have a place to mount my Garmin Overlander GPS.

I really like my 2023 Gen 3, it replaced a 2015 Gen 2 (equally liked). So far I have about 3,000 miles on it after ~6 weeks. I made an effort to get the last model year for each Tacoma generation which has worked out pretty good for me.

One exception, I have a 2007 FJCruiser first year model that has been incredible…still have it but may downsize and sell it as i can’t justify keeping it.

Wireless charger seems to be very fickle and unreliable in my truck.

I think that along with few other stuff cuts the cost. You get reliability & capability at cost of having pick up truck level comfort and cheap stuff like that. its a pick up truck, not SUV.

My dads TRD off road came without bed lights, they cost 30$ on AMZ lol. So yea, i guess they cut bunch of stuff to reduce cost unless you are going all in like Tundra that tops 70K and is complete garbage.

I used mine on a road trip once. Once the phone was fully charged, the phone kept switching from charging to not charging and beeping every time thru the Bluetooth connection. After a couple of minutes, I shut off the Qi charger and never used it again. I have since removed the switch and used the harness to power aftermarket switch illumination.

I’m puzzled by these posts b/c at face value, beyond any actual issue (real or perceived), they seem to illustrate people who don’t test drive or even research a truck that’s literally been on sale since 2015 before they buy it.

More likely some just want to light the match…

There's a lot of threads on it. Mine works if the truck is at a complete stop. The moment I start moving, the wireless contact is intermittent, causing the screen to turn off and on every time it disconnects, then reconnects. It actually causes the battery to drain faster.

It does work with the case off, but that's a lot of work for a "convenience" feature. Easier to just plug it in.

It's pretty much an expensive cubby hole that isn't actually deep enough to keep anything in.

Or perhaps it illustrates people who didn't want all the electronic gizmos, but had no other option but to buy the premium package if they wanted a double cab with manual transmission.

We all make compromises to get the features that are most important to us. I don't necessarily want all these new electronic features, but I did pay for them. I don't think it's too much to expect that they actually work.

Well, with all the negative press about the Tacoma on this thread, (in spite of us all owning one), let me inject a few positive comments about the Tacoma. As trucks go; those of us who own a Tacoma bought it for its unparallelled sex appeal. There isn't a Ford F150 or a Dodge Ram that even comes close to sheer cool looks of the Toyota Tacoma. If you still have a fondness for living your best life possible and willing to spend a bit of extra cash, you go the extra distance and raise your truck an inch or two or even three as some have done, and as if that wasn't enough, you can pony up a few more of those dollars you are saving up for the kid's college fund, and install some BF Goodrich KO2s on a set of eye-catching rims and there isn't a girl who wouldn't take a double take at your truck.

Sure, she ain't no sports car and rival the muzzle velocity of a cartridge leaving the end of your barrel. But is that really why you bought it for? I know I didn't. My 1 inch raised truck, has plenty of height along with my robust tires to handle virtually any crappy condition a Northwest winter can throw at me. Plus, she doesn't need "premium" gas to do any of it with.

As for the entertainment console, try this; Install a forty something dollar Amazon purchased YUVETH Wireless CarPlay Adapter. It's a small dongle that sits inconspicuously hidden away and blue-tooth connects my phone to the truck every time without fail. A fella could do a lot worse than having the compliant Ms. Siri on board at your beck and call to dial your phone to whomever you want on the contact list, look up the day's currency exchange rate or tell you any number of other small details. Plus Google maps is at your fingertips to go anywhere you want.

Loosen up guys. The Tacoma, now this is one cool truck.

I think it's safe to say that we all love our trucks. Mine actually looks exactly like yours, minus the moustache! I've had it for 3 months, and I'm still finding excuses to go out, just so I can drive it.

That said, these trucks aren't cheap. When you drop this kind of money on a vehicle, I really don't think it's too much to ask that the features you're paying for actually work.

I shouldn't have to spend more money to fix things that should just work from the factory. I shouldn't have to bury buttons under the dashboard because the feature is so poorly designed that it will never be used.

Sometimes you just need to vent.

And as far as Entune Premium, why does not only the screen suck also but the Nav is terribly inaccurate. I even updated the sd a couple months ago. The Nav is wrong at least 8 out of 10 times.
