My 4Runner has projectors that don't melt the snow and ice off them. It's a PITA when driving across the state in sub freezing temps like around Thanksgiving or Christmas coming or going to my folks' place.

For my carb'd bikes I try to run only non-Ethanol fuel but sometimes that's tough to come by in my area. I've also developed the habit of shutting off the fuel petcock about 1/2 mile from home then letting it sputter until it runs out any fuel in the float bowl before storage.

I've seen bad stuff happen with kreem tank sealer if the tank isn't etched properly first and will not use it. When I had my Honda CB400F repainted I spoke with a Honda/Indian restoration shop near me and they use a product called Red-Kote so I had that fuel tank sealed with that. It's been almost 10 years now and it's holding up great.

I wonder why Clearwaters are so expensive. I run a set of Diode Dynamics SSC2 (~$150) on my Versys and they have a super wide cut off pattern, and since they're yellow they catch more attention as well.

I spent the better part of two weeks cleaning/removing a tank liner from a bike that had been sitting for a bit with a half tank. The ethanol gas ate that thing for lunch, came out in pieces, had to do a complete carb rebuild.
Like has been said, completely full tank and drain the carburetor. The object is to keep the moisture out. I also add stabilizer to the tank for winter. That gas is then siphoned out in the spring and used in the lawn mower and the bike gets fresh gas.

When I bought my CB750 I took it out on the highway, not thinking to make sure it had enough gas. Sure enough, ran out of gas like two miles out of town. No problem, I thought, it's old and has a reserve on the tank, woo! Flipped it to reserve and got NOTHING. Luckily ran out next to a farm and the farmer there gave me a gallon to get back to town.

When I got home shined a flashlight into the tank and the entire bottom of the tank was a BRICK of tank liner. They filled it up until it came out the top of the normal petcock tube or something. I still to this day have no idea how they thought it was correct to do it that way. I spent HOURS that winter drilling this brick out piece by piece through the filler hole. Turn it upside down, grab it with long vice grips, drill out holes from the block, try to break it apart. It was such a mess. Once it was pretty cleaned out I filled it up with vinegar and dissolved the rest of the coating.

The best part? Once the coating was completely gone? It didn't even have any leaks. :frusty:

I bought mine through one of the FJR forums when someone organized a group buy. As far as justifying their price I will tell you their instructions are thorough and clear, their mounts are some of the nicest I've seen, and they stand behind their stuff like crazy. My upper lights, Clearwater Kristas were on my 2007 when it got hit. One light had a pretty rashed up bezel but worked fine. I called Clearwater about getting a replacement and the staff member I spoke with told me about their new lens covers and suggested those as a less expensive alternative. She then gave me a returning customer discount and an additional discount for having survived an accident. Seriously. When installing the lights onto my 2014 I ran into an issue and had to call them to work through it. I was almost immediately put on the phone with one of their installers who walked me through the issue after realizing the instructions I was sent had an incorrect picture and he had that file for the instructions pulled offline to be fixed right after we hung up. They offer ride in installations with appointment.

I helped another FJR owner install some lights from LED Rider and a Skene controller on his bike. The instructions were far more difficult to follow. The bezels on his lights, the anodizing discolored in just weeks, and the beam pattern was more like a blob of light with poorly defined cut off. One of his mounts also broke after only a few months so we pulled both light mounts and brought them to work and had our welder modify them to strengthen them.

Now there are very likely other lights of comparable quality and I might just be justifying my own purchase here but I will continue to tell people just how well mine work and have held up and what decent people they have there working for them.

Fair enough, I made my own 3D printed mounts and wiring for my lights and I like tinkering so I didn't mind it, but it certainly isn't plug and play.

i say keep it. for the price vs utility plus the vintage aspect of it? Definitely keep it. Hell keep em both

sheesh. I had a similar scare years back with a deer like that, but in my old volkswagen. How do you even survive one of those for it to almost happen again...guess lightning does strike twice lol

This reminds me I need to stop being lazy and adjust my headlights so they can actually light up the road

and this reminds me why i haven't done it yet lol

between my 2001 dodge intrepid, 2010 Mazda3, 2008 VW rabbit, 2017 WRX, and my tacoma, all the headlights have been pretty mediocre. And I have LASIK so my night vision ain't great...but i've made it this far

I will say, I do like the LED's. I don't have any plans to put them on my truck as I'd rather do the light upgrade that crashnburn has. I already have the wiring kit for those and the fogs....just been too lazy to install(after almost 2yrs on them sitting on the shelf)

I have LED bulbs in projectors on my truck. Honestly not much difference between stock as far as visibility, though i do know the whiter light is slightly less illuminating.

the BMW also has LED's which are actually pretty bright, I'm just too lazy to get around to adjusting them. Might actually take a look later today to see if I can just unscrew the top bolt and slide in a washer without having to actually pull the fairings.

Lol 2 years?! I'm so impatient, none of my mods sit around for more than a month or two before getting installed.
