It's my 21 pro with 31k miles. Had my guys do oil, trans, diff fluid drain and fill and when I picked it up one of the guys was like hey have Toyota listen to this tick, it seems abnormal.

Asking you guys, as far as I'm aware it's always done this... I think? It's only on pass side and you can hear it through the wheel gap and after about a 10min warmup is when it starts to get this loud

They aren't the quietest engines ever. Direct injection and a high pressure fuel pump, injector cleaning cycles....they make ticky sounds all the time. Mine is quieter than that (but not what I'd call quiet by any means), could just be variations from one vehicle to another, though, plus listening to it with earbuds on YouTube adds a variable. Most engines with direct injection that I've been around are noisy suckers, not just this engine, so I guess it is what it is :notsure:. Maybe get under the hood with one of those automotive stethoscopes and see where the noise is coming from.

That sounds like it's at a valve train frequency similar to when a single lifter is acting up, if it stays the same frequency when revving it a little then it could be a pump or some other system but if it increases with RPM then its a moving component driven off the crankshaft, to me it sounds just like what a bad lifter sounds like. I've heard exh leaks that didn't sound like a leak but it doesn't sound like that. Not trying to scare you but if that's normal count me surprised, the 22 TRD I test drove wasn't noticeably louder then my 140K 4.0. Dealer will prob tell you it's normal but I'd give them the opportunity to listen to it.

Thanks. Like others said it's kinda normal but I'm still under warranty so I'm booking an appointment so they can at least note it in the case something is actually f'd down the road. The truck runs great I'm not really concerned at all. Engine warranty good up to 60k right?

I think it's a good idea. Does the tick increase in frequency with RPM?

the noise I’m hearing in the video, which is not what I would call a tick. I would call that a very faint knock, my truck is never made that noise

I agree, I used the word tick but it sounds more like a slight knock sound.

I don’t believe it’s a fuel related noise. Those simply do not happen at idle. These engines are rather noisy with the idle cycle. That noise is just DIFFERENT. I would have it looked at. to me it does not sound like a lifter or typical valve train noise.

Get a long screwdriver and try to pinpoint the location of the noise. KEEP THE SCREWDRIVER AWAY FROM MOVING PARTS!

the high press fuel pump is at the back of the engine, passenger side. it is cam/follower driven so it will vary with rpm.

I know mine doesn't sound anything like that. You wanna hear a loud motor you should listen to my 701 enduro. That bike sounds like the motor is going to grenade into a million pieces everytime I ride it. But thats ktm/husky for you and its totally normal lol.
