I’m literally looking at diagrams and YouTube videos to “figure it out”.
    Now I’m curious.

Doesn’t look like there is room (or even machined) for shaft to slide into seal.

You're right, there's nowhere for a seal lip to ride on..

Maybe the auto does, the RA-60F manual does not appear to have one.

Looks like the auto has a seal.

Looks like I'm wrong about the o-ring. Without another seal facing trans it's the only thing keeping gear oil in the transmission

OP said his looked “different”. And it does compared to the one in post #10.
Why does one have a groove, and the other not?
    Does it even matter?

Yea that's what I thought when I pull it out, think I'll call the dealer tomorrow, and see how much the trans output plate and tcase nose cone costs, if not too bad I'll just put both in and pray I don't have a leak after

If you have a warm buddies garage I would maybe take the front half of the transfer case apart. Specifically the bearing retainer plate and investigate further the condition of the shaft. Maybe there is a nick or groove worn into it??

If there is, when you put a new seal to it I would maybe unscrew the garter spring and snip a few coils off before installing it And/or install the seal to a different depth so it has a better surface to ride on.

If I had to bet I would guess the leak is from the transfer case side because i'm guessing the o-ring is sufficient for the transmission since it's just splash lube whereas the transfer case fluid is pressurized via the pump on it's output shaft.

For the sealant use I'm sure you'd be fine. I've sealed my rear diff cover in my ranger with it in a parking lot in college at around 5*C. I would just say to maybe warm up the pieces and let it cure overnight warm if possible before reinstalling just to be safe. If you're careful you may be able to just angle the t-case back to do everything without losing your new fluid

Alright the moment you've been all waiting for, ordered those plates and took the tcase back out, couldn't feel any play on the transmission output shaft side of things but can feel some slight play on the tcase input, should these have no play or would you think some is allowed since it's supported on the end by the output shaft?

Should always be a little play to compensate for when parts expand due to heat

Well after about 1,500km I still don't have a leak, when I took it apart I didn't notice anything obviously wrong with the parts just glad it's finally fixed. thanks everyone for the help!

So you replaced the 4 bolt housing on the rear of the transmission that the o-ring pops into to seal the back of the trans? And that's what fixed it so far?

I also replaced the housing on the front of the transfer case, the piece that slides into the transmission
