I don’t know why everyone gets so worked up about market adjustments. Just don’t buy the vehicle. If someone else does, that’s their problem. You do realize what type of economy you desire to live in if you want all prices to be fixed, right?

Think about alll the other goods and services with prices that vary greatly based on demand at a particular time and in a particular area. For some reason new vehicles should be completely immune from these market forces, apparently.

I agree with you, absolutely. But for me personally it’s still a load of crap. But I like the truck so I bought it. Heck a lot cars now days don’t even come a spare tire at all, much less a doughnut spare. It’s just when you sit down to buy it and fork over a load of cash , those extra charges are irritating.

It’s free at Costco for the life of your tires. Buy tires at Costco get nitrogen forever, no additional charge.

If you've ever worked on the other side of the table at a dealership you know those other line items are just revenue generators on top of the surcharge. You might as well say it's got an $8K surcharge.

The floor mat thing is there since the giant lawsuits from the Prius days. There was a genius that claimed it wedged the accelerator and he couldn’t stop it and collided with other cars.
It was one of the dumbest things I have heard outside of Friday on tacomaworld.

And wait 6 hrs to get a tire rotation. The place is always mobbed or you have line up before the sun goes up like in communist Russia

I ain’t going to Costco to put nitrogen in my ties, I got an air compressor, I rotate my own tires instead of driving 60 miles round trip to the dealer. I haven’t gotten a free I’ll change yet cause I change it 5000 miles (don’t want to get an oil discussion going) and when I got to 10,000 I called and was told they were booked for a month. So I changed it then too. Now I’m about at 15,000 and I’ll change it again myself, and I’ll rotate my tires again when needed. So much for the free service, it’s all cotton candy and unicorns when you buy it then it’s sorry Charlie.

    Must be socal

Here in SoCal they will try to get 10 to 12k over msrp for the pro and 6 to 8k over msrp on the Off-Road Premium

And they will get it. They know someone will walk in and just pay it

Better to have to buy 'real' accessories that you can take off and sell... (e.g. predator steps or a bed cover), rather than worthless and valuless things like nitrogen fill, carpet protection spray, or an alarm system...

Nitrogen is less reactive than oxygen, but it is not a noble gas. It also is just like oxygen when it comes to expanding and contracting with variations in temperature.
As noted by others, air is about 78% nitrogen anyway, so paying big bucks to have “deoxygenated air” in your tires is a waste of money.

I use their online appointment maker and get right in at the slot I picked.

Sometimes the time I want is a couple weeks out, but for rotation I don't really care.

All true. Companies are in business to make money and one way to add to the bottom line is to exploit market conditions. Car dealers seem to go about it in a particularly sleezy way though. The only way to fix this problem is as a group. If people stop buying and reduce demand because the item is overpriced, they will reduce their price.

I live on the coast. Charleston, South Carolina. My mortgage payment went up $362/mo. due to insurance increases. The company that I had said they’re not insuring houses on the coast anymore. Definitely not on the water or in a flood zone. Flood insurance is not even required. When my insurance agent said that, I shopped around myself quite a bit and couldn’t find anything better. I get it if it went up $50 and that’s just increasing with the times but like you said I have no choice. Just feel helpless. Why would every other insurance company not do the same thing. They will, and worse likely. I just don’t know anything about the insurance in history. Is it regulated? Next they will say “We’re not insuring Midwest states with tornado risks.” 47% increase? No explanation needed. Why not?

I haven't been on a new car lot in years. We went to take a look at the Tellurides for the hell of it and they mentioned they don't markup above MSRP but the dealer add-ons are the only way they make their money. Fair enough, but I asked that the Kahu (lojack basically) be removed. Honestly, I wear a tin foil hat.... I don't know what kind of control those devices truly have over my vehicle. The dealership did not budge even after I told them I didn't want the anti-theft device or the 895 bucks in "car care protection". They simply stated, "we don't markup our vehicles, so these options are here to stay". I told him I simply didn't want the options and to take them off and we would purchase. Yea no. They would rather wait for the next chump to come in and just pay for it. Long story short, dealerships are no longer here to help you purchase a vehicle. They sell in volumes and will literally stand their ground knowing full well tomorrow an actual idiot will come in and pay for everything. Oh, and before you purchase anything with the "anti-theft" as an option, you need to research which device is in the vehicle and what all its capabilities are. They are a sold to the dealer by the manufacturer for the dealer and not the consumer and the cost is passed down to you. Kahu is a 3rd party GPS system and most owners never even realize it's on the vehicle at the time of purchase.

I'm not on the side of the Ins companies but they were basically caught with their pants down starting back with Katrina, I lived in an area where flood ins wasn't required and we got 5.5' of water in the house during that storm. Almost all of them are re-adjusting their actuary tables to reflect the crazy weather of the last few years and the 100yr floodplains are being changed in many areas as you saw with the increases. Expect to see allot more folks with paid off houses self insure, it's happening in fla now. Living in a coastal area will get more expensive from here on out.
