I'm hoping it will compliment my CE22 20th Anniversary nicely

So I have an epiphone LP custom pro. I really like the feel of it, but the sound is so-so. Don't get me wrong, it's a huge step above any intro level ax, but it sounds a little muddy on both the bridge and the neck, and the sustain is good but not great. Recently, I've been looking at the tech on the old Gibson SG's and found that I really like the sound of the Burstbuckers. Would swapping in a set of those be like putting lipstick on a pig? Or could it actually help?
Or, should I just sell it, save up, and go for one of the new 61' reissue SG's?
    Thanks.

Did you try to adjust the height of the pickups in relationship to the strings yet? and Yes, swapping pickups can change your tone.

I had a PRS custom 24se and swapped the pickups out of them. I found the stock pickups to not be to my liking. Just save your old pickups and if you ever sell your guitar swap them back and hold onto your new pickups for your next guitar.

Yeah I did, and while it helped a little I still am not in love with the tone. It's almost like it wants to be bluesy but isn't quite there, and when I use it for hard rock it just sounds a little flat and muffled. I also have an epiphone sheraton II pro that I use for blues anyway, so it's not like I need the LP style to do everything or try to do everything. Both are plugged into an Orange Crush 35rt and the sheraton sounds significantly better for what I'm using it for (blues)
I guess what it really comes down to is me trying to convince myself to not drop some major cheese on a new SG. But then again, that little voice in the back of my head is telling me to...:spending:
I also love the look of the new ones with Vibrolas, but every review says that they suck at staying in tune, which is leading me toward the standard if I were to go that route.
Also Sam Ash currently has 10% off online with the code SAVE. It's like the universe is telling me something

New guitar is always nice! Always liked SGs. Closing thing to an SG I had was a Guild Polara. Great guitar!

I build guitars, otherwise I'd be buying a few guitars a year lol! Although, I did just buy a Gibson, but that was to restore it and of course I'll need to play it for awhile. It was in pretty rough shape, but plays great. Can't wait to finish it.

Doesn't your guitar have Probuckers? Aren't those the Epiphone equivalent of Burstbuckers?

Yeah one is a probucker 2 and the other a probucker 3. I've always heard the Probuckers were closer to the Classic '57's and have less "sizzle" than the Burstbuckers.
Plus, from what I've found the Probuckers are made with different alloys and made in china. The LP also has a quick disconnect while the SG would be hardwired. The LP is also solid mahogany body and heavy as sh!t, which can affect tone too.

I got to play a truly special guitar a couple of weeks ago with a great back story. A friend's father purchased a 1936 Martin D18 when he was a teenager and ended up trading it for some work a neighbor did for him somewhere along the way. My buddy's father passed away quite a few years ago but recently the neighbor reached out and said he never felt right about keeping that guitar and gave it to him. He called Martin with the serial number and they told him it was a 1936 that retailed for a whopping $250.00 back in the day. It's a little scuffed and worn now but that just adds to the mojo.

Bass player for the last 45 years. 66 pbass, 63 jazz bass, 59 pbass, 62 pbass. Too valuable to gig with. For that I use a Bill Nash pbass. 1E05C361-016F-4B5A-8CD3-FB8A0F606E32.jpg

Anyone have input on the value of a newer used Martin D-18 Modern Deluxe? It has the aged wood Sitka spruce top and titanium truss rod. Hardly any use and I can pick it up for $2K. New is $3800 on Sweetwater. Sounds like a decent deal but would like input on the guitar if anyone has any. The D-18 is nice but if I were to buy new, it would be a D-28 Ambertone finish.

    thoughts?

It seems to be an industry-wide clearance.
Sucks you aren't seeing anything in Canada...

I use Gotoh locking tuners on a few of my guitars now. I love them. All their parts are great.

Back in the day you had a choice between Grover, Gotoh and Schaller...
I've been using Gotohs since my first build, 30 years ago.

I would've liked to have tried some Graphtech or Hipshot...
I wanted drop-ins though, and Gotoh is one of the few with the mounting screw offset 11mm @ 45°.

They really upped their game with the 510 line of parts. The 510 strat bridge is a favorite...

    These are SG381-MT tuners...
My only complaint is these keystone buttons could have stood to spend a little bit more time in the tumbler to soften the corners.

Charvel released a limited run guitar in 2019, the Super Stock SC1. They only made about 250, and it was a light relic Pro Mod with an EVH bridge pickup and SD Screamin Demon in the neck. Pao Ferro fretboard. Very cool guitar and exactly what I want in a Charvel.

Anyway, they sold out the limited run very quickly and I missed my shot to own one. So I’ve been watching Reverb looking for a used one for several years. They pop up occasionally, but are usually gone within the hour. Well, I finally nabbed one:
