Just curious - the question isn't related to your post - but why did you trade in your 2017 for an identical 2023 Sport? For the subtle updates? A fresh warranty?

Love my 2017! But it has been far from trouble free. Thankfully everything so far was taken care of by warranty. But now the warranty is up so I'm on my own in the future :(.

I was starting to have a few issues with the 2017. I could not find a solution for some of the problems. And it being my daily driver, I felt the mileage was getting a bit on the high side. I wanted to also stick with the V6 before next yrs update. It’s also nice to have some warranty again.

How high kilometers were you at, and what sort of problems? Just out of curiosity.

Traded my Perfect 16 DCLB 4X 85K mi for 2023 Pro, at first mileage was low, like 17mpg. Like Uhoh too late now. On 16 at fill up was 385 and daily 21.8. When I fill 23 currently at 5300mi 366 at station and just today on commute to work 22.2, home 23.1. So hang tight. Get so miles on the OD.

I was at about 175,000kms (approx 108k miles). The dealership I purchased the truck from put a spacer kit on the suspension which had to be removed and replaced with a proper Bilstein kit. It was before I knew anything about suspension unfortunately. The spacer kit wreaked havoc on all the components.

More recently, I had this issue with the steering column. When it got hot in the summer, the truck would not start. There was a clicking noise in the steering column. I think it was a malfunctioning steering lock. All the dealerships that I took it to thought it had to do with the starter or the battery, but that wasn’t the case. I had to have the truck towed on two occasions. I spend a lot of time in the back country so I couldn’t take a chance with it. I decided to give up on the problem and just buy a new one. The updated 2024 model will likely have some flaws to work out before I ever buy one.

I'll do that when I get my truck back. I have a 19 with 27K on it and a 23 with 2 thousand miles on it. Seems like the newer Taco shifts at lower speeds making for a more peppy ride but worse gas mileage. I was thinking they might have changed things a little. I like both of them just fine, if I need the trucks to go fast, they do. My kid just left in the new one to go to his college an hour away in the snow on a Saturday night. If anyone knows any prayers keep me in your thoughts. Great trucks. Wish Toyota made a one ton dually.

Do you know if there's a way to reprogram the transmission timing to make it similar to the 2017 model?

Tranny shift points can be adjust via a tunning software to your liking. Check tuning threads.
