I was up there this past weekend too, not in the taco though. Camped in Burlington campground down the road from the Immortal Tree.

We took avenue of the giants on the way home Sunday so we didn't have too much time to explore it, but I saw enough to want to come back and spend a night or two camping for sure. Awesome place!

Well, weekend trip was a good shakedown before heading on my week long trip at the end of this month. Tent was shifting from side to side along the aluminum rails even though the clamps are tight. Ended up putting some extra rubber I had laying around between the tent and extrusions and just tried shifting it with my body weight from left to right and it’s snug as a bug. Thinking of doing another shakedown in 2 weeks. Second day my propane extension hose decided to take a shit so no Mr Buddy heater (thankfully not needed with the FSR in fall season) but more importantly…no stove. Ended up having to use my Amazon special jet boil which handled cooking like a champ. Overall simple and effective trip and glad to be getting back on the trails.

PS - I miss having a truck bed to just throw things in!

Ebbits and Tioga passes still open for now.

Potential for at least 4” of snow tonight though.

I know a lot of people headed to the DWR snow conference in Bishop tomorrow… might be going the long route!

120 is closed. It's temporary. Same with Glacier Point.

Caltrans reporting SR-4 is closed too.

    [IN THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AREA]
Is closed from 0.5 mi east of the Jct of SR 207 /Mt Reba Turnoff/ to the Jct of SR 89 /Ebbetts Pass/ (Alpine Co) - Due to snow - Motorists are advised to use an alternate route

Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from 3.5 mi east of Cottage Springs (Calaveras Co) to the Mt Reba Turnoff (Alpine Co)

Best CA road info from Caltrans is https://roads.dot.ca.gov/

Oof. Hopefully they left early yesterday or it’s looking like a long drive over 88 today.

Not a wheeling trip per-se, I was out working on a new climbing route, but the view on the way home was too good to pass up a photo.

Nice photo but what I need is route beta. Where? How many pitches? How hard? Trad or sport?

Off of Foresthill Rd. towards the Soda Springs end. It's mostly just boulder problems but I've been TR soloing them because they're on the high side and I'm usually alone.

Sweet. It's nice to have a quiet place you can go pull down. There's a few around Bishop that are still low key. There's nothing wrong with TR rehearsing highballs. There's some shit at the Buttermilks that I still haven't finished because scary high bordering on stupid high. I'm glad I'm out of my enjoying scary climbing phase. Age and marriage played a big roll in that. I'm super proud of some of the stupid leads I've done but there probably won't be anymore. lol

I went this weekend. Just didn’t hear much about it. Doesn’t seem like people go as much.

but they sold out today. Didn’t let anyone else in after 3pm.

much more fun this time around for me. I’m running 6112/5160 on Tacoma. Last time I was at Pismo, I was running 5100 with stock coil on top perch. Was rough.

The closure for 2024 was overturned by a federal judge. Still, once they hit 1k cars they shut down entry for the rest of the day which happens pretty commonly by early afternoon on the weekends.
