at 100k I agree. I had half that when I installed them and my gaskets you couldn't tell the difference with the new ones.

I second this. Just installed the cam gears and supercharger at 100K miles and the old valve cover gaskets were much harder/less pliable than the new ones. Cheap insurance.

So it's probably not going to matter much replacing it then since mine have a couple thousand miles lol

All this talk about the cam gears makes me a bit bummed I sold my set. Mostly because I didn’t want to do the job myself and a few others had some install issues.

That's where I'm at, I had a shop install my blower so I'm trying to figure out howuch work it will take to uninstall and reinstall correctly

What were the issues that people had? I remember that job being pretty straightforward. Maybe it's just me...

I don't recall any cam gear installs. Linking up center is funky but that's about it (i never did get mine dead on)

When I checked my timing after doing my camshafts the timing was just slightly not perfect. Still runs fine though, so maybe that was some minor timing chain wear.

User install error brother. Admittedly the line up marks were funky, but it was as dead center as it could possibly be.

Yeah, it was installer error that I'm referencing.

I haven't done engine work (outside of maintenance like plugs/filters/exterior wiring) and don't really feel like it with the minimal work space and tools I have available. I've been and plan to stay out of engine and transmission internals, but will wrench on anything else.

This was my first time opening up and overall it was not too bad. Getting the cam gear nut off was the hardest part.

yah truck seems to drive fine and been like that for almost 20k. Part of me wonders if I am lacking some power due to it being off. Maybe my timing was always off from the factory. If i decide to pull the trick and port the S/C I can dig in and re do it. Honestly never set timing or replaced the chain so that could be another adventure to tackle.

I thought this was an interference engine. Meaning that if your timing is off on the chain then you’d have valves and pistons touching each other as soon as you start it. Right?!?

ill leave that up to the engine experts. If so, what would that be like? I assume the engine would be running rough.

It would bend a valve I would assume. A bent valve would be obvious right away. I’m no expert though. Just a shade tree mechanic wannabe.

yah makes sense. I have always wondered if I need to go back and re do it. My top cam gears aligned no problem but the lower crank never lined up. Some folks said there's never did so I ran with it.

Yeah it is interference. However you could probably be 2 teeth off on your timing and pistons wouldn't hit valves.

Yeah if you bent a valve it would feel like you were running on 4 cylinders.

This is how mine was too. Lower crank mark was slightly past the ZERO mark, but up top was dead on.

How much was it off? Mine was like 0.5 degrees. Or maybe 1 degree.
