Gosh dangit, major fail on my part. I went to the local Toyota dealer and asked for the genuine transfer case oil they use. This is what I got.. I guess I had just assumed they handed me the right thing and it looked close enough to what I was expecting.. anyway, I just noticed as I was cleaning things up. It’s in the TC now and I drove about 2 miles on it already. How long until my Tacoma implodes on itself?
In all seriousness, am I good to go? Or do I need to swap it out for something else ASAP?

It's fine. Not many dealers carry the LF fluid. People get in fights over it but GL5 is 100% ok for transfer cases. As long as its rated 75W.

They gave you that because all the new transverse models call for LT fluid. It's pricey, but still cheaper than LF.

Gotcha, so if I had taken my truck to this dealer, they’d have probably put this stuff in and I would have been none the wiser??

More likely they would have put bulk GL5 in, but they dont sell Toyota GL5 in bottles typically.

I work at a dealer and we use GL5 bulk on all tcases. Every dealer in the region does as well.

Ideally you'd use GL4 75W. You dont need the Toyota stuff.

The big one is the manual transmission fluid, you can use GL5, but GL4 MT fluid actually makes a difference.

    Use this. https://www.redlineoil.com/mt-90-75w90-gl-4-gear-oil Tacomaworld endorsed.

I tried 4 dealers in Canada looking for the 75W stuff and all used the same Toyota diff fluid for TCase, as said above all used bulk and one wasn’t even sure it was the same stuff in the toyota can.

I was just recommended BG syncro shift II from my dealer. They said bulk 75w-90 typically goes in when they replace transfer case fluid.

I haven’t seen any recommendations here for BG syncro shift, it is a 75w-80 api 4. I feel safe running it, but may look into redline down the road.

    Here’s the BG

For the second gen manual tranny, Toyota specifically recommends GL-4 as GL-5 doesn't play well with brass synchro rings, IIRC.
