I told them I drive a midsize SUV, so they showed up with some VW thing. I asked if there was any chance of swapping for literally any Toyota, so he called his office and they said they had a Taco. He asked if that would work, and I said "fuck yeah!"

They didn't have 4runners. I was actually hoping for a Highlander so I could check out the 2.4T (had it been a newer one).

Oh, well.. At least I get to see what the Tacos are like. Overall I like it. The transmission is a tad annoying, and the brakes are hard to get used to, but no other complaints, yet.

That would piss me off! I thought you'd be able to pick a vehicle from their lineup, but apparently you just get whatever they have that day.

I also love how they call a Corolla a "midsize." Like, really??

I usually rented with hertz and I had gold status (matched via hotel status) and you could just walk out and hop in whatever you wanted. Sometimes it was nice, sometimes you got whatever was left lol

Bumped into a helpful parts guy at a dealer and he gave me some good info and a components printout (are they still called microfiche?) Apparently this gauge cluster is not sold as one unit, but 6 or 7 components and instruments. He said they are still available. But it might get complicated since the digital odometer on the speedo is also dead. Parts guy said the old part needs to be sent in, so they can program the odo reading to the new one.

I'll keep that in mind if I ever rent a car again. I figured I was low priority because it's through insurance, but it sounds like this might just be the way they operate. If I were paying out of pocket, I'd definitely want to choose my vehicle.

    This is true!

James @Thatbassguy, how long is the 'Runner going to be laid up? Nice replacement ride BTW.

This mights seem like a dumb question, but a) have you checked places like eBay/LKQ or salvage yards for a replacement here stateside that you can ship over to them, and b) do you know what DOT regs and emissions are like for PR? Specifically with regards to letter B, if their current odo already doesn't work and if they don't know current mileage does it matter to them/DOT/DMV/EPA what the replacement one says? If not, buy one and swap it and call it a day. Just some thoughts, been brainstorming other options but that's what I got.

The regs are something to definitely think about. I know that the gov got super picky about replacement parts down there, needed sign-offs from mechanics to verify paper trails parts etc. That was a while ago, but I have to imagine that hasn’t changed. The mileage thing might be something else on its own.

Crossing fingers, it sounds like an aunt found a good mechanic to take it to. Turns out the other guy just read codes off and said get a new instrument cluster without looking into anything much.

We have this thin layer of a foreign white powdery substance on the roads.
Not real sure about what it may be though it seems its triggered an area wide 20mph speed limit.

Do you at least get a few of the geniuses who forget that snow is slippery every year? Those are my favorite.

Really hope we don't get any white stuff here in Green Bay. Small chance though.

Here in the hills between Washburn and Cornucopia we’ve got about 5 and it’s still coming down hard at 0830.
In town there’s not nearly as much and over in Ashland 15 miles away it’s just a dusting .
It wasn’t really expected to be anything more than a flurry…..IMG_0240.jpg

20mph may be way too fast for some people.

    It’s still snowing,albeit lighter now.
The radar shows the band of snow has moved slightly south and east to over by Pats house,he should get to enjoy this early snow shoveling season too.

There is a Dodge minivan and an F150 that go to work the same time I do.
You don't want to get stuck behind either of them when the roads are dry.

Cleaned the snow off the Tribute and side deck, about 3 inches.
It's not sticking to the driveway and the road is a slushy mess.

    Dog still likes the snow.

    Also a PSA
Don't forget with colder temps check your tires air pressure.
Also if you carry a jump starter pack make sure it's fully charged.
