Is there a certain software that will monitor engine stats like coolant temp that I’m able to check on my phone? Or even a separate device controller. My coolant temp gauge is not working properly and it would be nice to have a more accurate reading anyways. I know I’ve seen them on others trucks here just didn’t pay attention at the time

scangauge and ultra gauge are hardware units

There’s a bunch of Bluetooth ones that can be read with phone apps. I have a blue driver and it’s pretty solid.

I have an ultragauge, will do everything you want, I'd invest in a Bluetooth I hear they're pretty nice

Okay I appreciate the input. For the Ultragauge, is it the EM plus 1.4? I don’t see anything stating bluetooth comparability but maybe I’m missing it. Also, it reads fault codes too?

Ultragauge reads codes, no Bluetooth capability

The Bluetooth ones are little dongles that plug into the OBD2 port. Then you use a phone app like Torque or Car Scanner to access it. Most read fault codes and live data.

You sure your gauge is broken and not the coolant temp sensor?

I splurged and got the Bluedriver Bluetooth reader. Has worked great for me though you can find similar devices for less than half the cost.

I use Bluedriver. It can monitor and store multiple inputs but the caveat is the more data points the the slower the refresh. For the $100 ish dollars it is a great tool.

Do not confuse the dash Gauge with the Coolant temp sensor the sends signals to the ECM .

The coolant temp sensor is the data you will see not from the sending unit.

I am more certain that it’s my gauge and not my temp sensor because at all times, when turning the key on, even after it sat all night in the cold, the needle automatically goes to the middle of the gauge. So that’s just plainly not right. It never fluctuates, it just goes from “limp” with the key off, to instantly pegged in the middle once I turn the key. I don’t know exactly why it would do that so if there’s input there too that would be cool

I have been watching my coolant temp gauge for a while now. It likes to sit a little above 1/2. I have replaced a weak fan clutch, water pump, thermostat and fan pulley bracket so I don't think the engine is actually running warm. Based upon posts above, I just ordered Bluedriver and I hope it will help me determine if it is either the gauge or sensor.

Not sure… each year of manufacture the available PID’s, thats the techie term for the data points, changes. I know that for my 06 Miata, Bluedriver does not read the auto trans temp. MY Snap On Edge will not but the Solus Pro does. I will hook it up to my 98 Prerunner and see and if I get time I will see it Toyotas Tech Stream will read it also.

Will that app work with the BlueDriver dongle?

OBD Fusion works great. I have 3 or 4 dashes set up for mine.

I recommend you try to find a low-profile OBD bluetooth dongle. I have a Carista and it sticks out so far I have hit it with my boots a few times while entering the vehicle.

Our temperature gauges are a very poor design by the time the gauge shows hot things can already be damaged. I replace all of mine with a manual temperature gauge.
