    Hello all!

I have a 2018 Tacoma with leather seats and 42k miles on the clock. I noticed the cushion is falling apart and shedding on my carpet, this whole time I just thought it was crumbs from my daughters snacks lol, but I looked at it closely and realized it’s the foam from the seats, anyone else have this issue?

local Toyota wants $260 for diagnostic fee and isn’t covered under my extended warranty because the seats are considered wear and tear.

Huh. Sure you don't have a mouse issue or something like that? Seems pretty early for seat foam to be coming apart.

    It happens.
I fully expect mine to fail prematurely since I lifted and have sliders I have to,,,, slide over.

Find a small business type upoholstery shop. Years ago I had a rip in one of my seats (pre-Taco) and took it to a local shop. The owner just looked at the seat and quoted a price to repair on the spot. Maybe he baked in his diagnostic fee into the price or not, but I'm pretty sure the whole transaction was cheaper than anything I a dealership would do for me. Pretty happy with his work as well.

At the risk of being "that guy" replacing seat foam is actually not a particularly difficult job. I've done it on two vehicles now. It's especially easy when you use OEM replacement parts. The part number is 71512-04080 and runs $170-180 online plus shipping.

A pair of hog ring pliers, some hog rings and an afternoon and you'll be good as new. I wouldn't pay a diagnostic fee. Based on your seat creasing and the way you're entering / exiting your truck, I bet you're rubbing on something in the seat frame causing that issue.

I was gonna ask the same. The leather seats in mine are fine at 55,000 km. I slide in and out all the time as I have short legs and these seats are very durable. Hope you find out what is the cause.

Yikes I just looked under my seats and I realized mine are doing it too. I slide in and out of my seat though so I should probably stop that

That sucks, my 2nd gen used to do that. Really annoying when the crumbs just appear right after vacuuming, its especially bad because of the black interior on 3rd gens the crumbs stand out like a sore thumb. Seat upholstery isn't really that fun. I replaced a ripped seat cover on my 2nd gen, those hog rings are awful to deal with. I'm not sure if the pliers mentioned above would of helped with removal of them, but its really easy to make a mess of the cushion trying to pull them out. I just used heavy duty grade zip ties to reinstall the new cover, don't know if it lasted because I sold the truck.

That's horrible. I'd expect that to happen in the junk yard.
