I second the fumoto valve for the drain, and if you're doing it yourself in the future, I recommend the aluminum filter housing, a lot easier to see a black o-ring on aluminum than the black plastic and it's cheap insurance to a cracked filter housing.

I wouldn't worry about it. If it didn't error and you didnt hear it knocking, it should be fine. Looks like you got it in time.

Oh wait, I forget where I am sometimes. Call the corporate office and demand a 4th gen Pro, free seat covers, and an orphan child with a supernatural ability. Threaten to leave a bad yelp review unless.

Good attitude. Glad the truck is ok too.
The ONE time i used the dealer for a free oil change on my new truck and they cracked the filter housing and didnt put the cap back on my engine. My mechanic found all of this stuff. He fixed /replaced what was needed. Lesson learned. Do it yourself or find a good mechanic w his own shop.

Sounds like you pay attention , noticing the smoke and stopping so fast saved your engine im sure.

happened to me in my old 98 jetta years ago. was driving and heard beeping that wasn't part of the song i was listening to. went to a gas station, checked oil level and it was low. put a bottle in only to see if drain out of the bottom. the screw was missing. i taped it up with some duct tape i had and drove a mileish to one of the many auto stores around that particular stop. luckily they had a replacement. put it in, put a bunch of oil in, and went to the concert i was heading to lol.

they guy at the gas station was not very happy with the bottle of oil i pretty much poured on the floor

How long did you drive it ? Given that there was still oil in it when you pulled over you’re likely ok. Surprised to see it so black already …

i was passing someone so i hit the gas and looked in my rearview and saw the smoke, and immediately got off the gas and went to the shoulder and shut it off. it was leaking like a trickle i suppose until that point and the heat/pressure must have compromised the o-ring

So I left a message at the dealer two days later for the service manager, nothing. I called the next day and left a voicemail, no response. I opened a case with Toyota and got this back a few days later:

Why leave a message via phone etc?

Go to them physically! It shows more of an impact and take you more seriously that you are upset than over the phone.

They did you wrong they gotta fix it.

I just did my third oil change Monday and ended up with a defective O ring, probably my fault for being in a hurry and buying an aftermarket rather than OEM filter. I pulled the filter and confirmed the O ring looked ok and was in the right groove, but it would not stop seeping after a short drive. I dropped it off at the the dealer as I was short on time and still have Toyota Care changes available. They changed the filter, confirmed the O ring was bad and said it does happen to them every now and then.

Just part of the joys of a cartridge system rather than the old style spin on filter...
