A lot of the body design things that people are yip-yapping about in here are things that you'd really need to see in person on a production truck in real-world lighting.

I believe it's an optical illusion because I don't have any flares. I do have some mud flaps however.

    Rear passenger seating area

    09:10
Looks like they removed the hard plastic of the rear seats for when you fold the back portion of the seat down. I always liked this feature of my 3rd gen for when the dog comes along for the ride. Also mentioned in this video that you can no longer fold the seat portion of the rear seats up and away to give you a flat surface for storage or other items. This is a super disappointing decision to hear from Toyota

I can understand and accept there being less storage space in the rear seating area due to the new hybrid system and batteries, but why even further limit the utility of the area by removing these other awesome features that the 3rd gen has? The permanently installed sub woofer behind the rear passenger seat area is also not ideal in my opinion. I dont want that. I want storage space

    What gives Toyota??

I agree they look less goofy painted. I think should have made the body of the truck wider and gained some cab and bed space instead of just poking the tires and flares way out.

I watched TRD Jon’s video of the same truck earlier today. There is almost no storage space for anything now. No under seat storage. The sub takes up the storage on one side behind the back seat and the jack is on the other side. Where do you store anything like recovery gear, trailer hitch, tools, first aid, fire extinguisher, tire inflator, etc? I have all of that stuff under and behind my seats. Do you just throw it all on the floor? This is terrible.

    Is the JBL speaker/sub optional?

Just going from memory, but I haven't seen any of the show trucks in the numerous videos without that stupid sub installed. Annoying

I would think Toyota is going to show all their options at shows like this. That's why you don't see an SR there. I am sure there will be an option to not have that in there.

Maybe its just a pre production model and they will have alternative ideas for these issues. Just trying to be optimistic here

Expensive truck should have innovative ideas. Common, Toyota

Hopefully. Sounds like storage got cut short. I have an AC SR, but it still has some spots under the jump seats to store some stuff.

Not sure but I would be trying to remove it to gain some storage since I’m not an 18 year old kid and don’t need loud bass.

Doubtful. It’s the hybrid battery that killed most of the storage. It’s crazy to build a truck marketed for adventure but have no place to store any of the things need for said adventures.

When the Ranger first came out, it was the same way. Total showstopper for me then.

Now, it’ll just mean I buy a Land Cruiser, 4Runner, or Lexus GX 550. I don’t really need a truck anymore.

Kinda sad the Tacoma back seat design is this way now. Are the non hybrids the same way?

I assume that if the battery isn’t there that you get under seat storage but I don’t think I’ve seen it in any videos yet. The hybrid trucks are the top of the line offroad adventure trucks. I just rewatched the video and the space behind the seat where the jack is is so tiny and narrow that I don’t think you can put much of anything at all. Maybe a pair of gloves. How in the hell did the designers forget about storage when you have trucks like the Rivian with a huge storage tunnel and frunk.

And get stolen and wet. I’m talking about stuff that lives in my truck all the time. You can’t even store a single tow strap in that truck.

This should piss everyone off. For the X-Runner they used (longer) Tundra control arms and positive offset wheels to fill out the fender flares. The Pro and Trail Hunter use standard (short) Tacoma control arms and negative offset wheels.

And its not like they haven’t designed the rear seating area to be folded up and away, why not do this as well with the hybrid models???
