    Thanks for the guidance.

I’m going to dig into it tomorrow morning now that I have time. If it is in fact a short what is the fix? Would I have to run new speaker wire to the head unit?

Depending on where it is shorting out you just repair the wire. No need to run new ones.

Don't waste your $ on a OEM Head. I and a hole lot of Tacoma owners have never been happy with Entune. It lacks so much as far as today's systems are concerned.
I've been putting up with terribly inaccurate Nav even with the latest version. I upgraded my speakers about a year ago which definitely improved music but no Apple Car Play or Android Auto sucks.
I actually finally pulled the trigger today on a new Kenwood Head Unit and complete installation kit from Crutchfield.

For the $ for a new Entune you should go aftermarket. Crutchfield is great. Especially the support the provide.

This wont help him if he has a short in the speaker harness. He needs to diagnose the issue before throwing parts at it.

I’ve been unable to find a short by disconnecting door harnesses. I also put a new head unit in just to see if that could be the fix and it will play fine and then the audio will shut off after a few minute’s.

I still have a warranty with the dealer where I pay 50% of labor and 70% of any parts. Would it be better to take it there or would a local audio shop be able to diagnose and fix it easier?

    Yeah.
I'd get an audio shop to take a look. Do the speaker grilles say JBL? If so, could be an issue with the JBL amplification or compatibility with the 2 ohm speakers. It sounds like there may have been some modifications to the system or wiring. They will probably just recommend running all new wires, but they might be able to tell you more about what has been modified.

it’s a non-Jbl car. Nothing looked modified when I had the old head unit out, all factory connectors were still there and intact.

    Do you have a multimeter?

Pull the radio and check each of the speaker leads. Put the meter on continuity, ground one lead and then touch each of the speaker leads.

I just tried this all the leads on the door speakers read 003.

Is there a separate leads for the tweeters?

tweeters are wired in parallel to the fronts at the connector for the tweeter in the dash corners.

Hmm. You might need to get further into the radio harness for this one. Having a shop would speed it up, but also result in throwing parts at it until they fix it.

If you could order the metra adapter harness, you should be able to break the speaker leads out so they are not connected to the truck anymore. This will let you test individual harnesses.

I put the new radio in with the metra adapter harness and it worked perfectly for my hour and a half drive yesterday. I think I may have had issues the first time I put it in because I was running the radio off the battery for like 15 min.

I’m hoping this is the end to the issue but time will tell. Thanks for all the advice

    Yeah.
I think there's a "feature" that shuts off ACC power after a period of time to save the battery. I've never experienced it, but there was a thread on here where a guy was wanting to disable that feature since he sits in his truck for extended periods of time. Hopefully that was it and you are all good!
