My 04 post head gasket job now makes a loud tapping noise in cold weather I'm going to assume not the valve adjustment job just because it doesn't do it when it's warm outside. But it also doesn't really get much quieter at operating temperature in cold weather.

Exhaust seems most likely but I just double checked all the exhaust nuts for proper toque a few weeks ago. I bought a mechanic's stethoscope that'll be here this weekend. But boomers will tell me I should go buy the longest screwdriver I can find.

Whoever took the catalytic converter can't even get rid of it (in Texas) anymore. You need to be fingerprinted, front/side profile, DL scanned, license plate documented, and your first born child sacrificed to visit a scrapyard now. At least in cities over 30K people.

 

So it was 30ish the other day when I was driving around. I know I know, not cold. But it's colder weather than my truck has seen since the head gasket job.

That's about the threshold where my 3rz would tap a little bit. I always just chalked it up to piston slap cuz it does have hypereutectic pistons.

 

Yeah if I want to get rid of the 04 Sequoia frame/body I have I'll have to take it to a small town. Or cut it into thirds. Same with selling stolen catalytic converters lol. Not that I condone cat theft.

 

I've noticed something similar. These V6s sound like diesels sometimes.

Maybe. I'm not driving much now though, so I don't need the MPGs as much.

 

I didn't think MPGs were ever a concern even with the Tacoma

It was with the 30 min commute, but I don't have to worry about that anymore. My hairline isn't as high as Lebron yet.

 

I was reading that with this El Nino season starting, TX could be in for another major cold snap like what happened a couple years ago.

Latest for us (CA) is a much colder winter come December but average precipitation, nothing like last winter with all the rain. But much colder than normal so they're saying it could really effect the central valley agriculture output

But it's weather predictions after all, never really know shit for sure until about a week or 2 out

 

And I wouldn't mind that but we're pretty due for a cold ass winter up here we've had 4 mild ones in a row.
