Couldn't like this post Chuck. So sorry to hear of your stuggles with Parkinsons and Neuropathy. Hope PT, even though it is torture, can help you out especially with the neuropathy. I'm not a doctor, but hopefully PT can help you in the long run.

I agree with you on the restoration of a clouded headlight lens. I corrected my sisters truck headlights yesterday and the passenger side cleaned up better than the driver's side. Still, they looked better than when it came to me for a tailgate repair. I even buffed out fome yellow bullock scrapes her late husband christened the truck with in, a parking garage.

You are in my prayers. My lunch partner is deep into Parkinson's now. Talked with his wife on Monday and he wants to come to Thanksgiving dinner. I sincerely hope he is able to come to dinner.

@Oldie2007 The engine and aircraft pics were really nice. I enjoyed them.

Good morning and a happy Friday. I have grocery shopping on the agenda today. Both a BJ's and Harris Tetter run.

A few pics from the headlight clear yesterday on my sisters truck. Used Menzerna Power Gloss and an orange pad.

With all this angst over the clarity of headlights... Why aren't they made of glass?

Glass which is as strong and impact resistant as the polycarbonate used in modern headlights is many times heaver; hence the use of plastic headlight housings.

I wonder if that kind of weight difference makes it worthwhile? And how impact resistant does a headlight really have to be? Would it be possible in the manufacturing process to put a six (?) inch glass insert in the huge expanse of plastic so you get the best of both worlds? If it's a safety issue, why not glass?

I really don't agonize over cloudy headlight lenses. The difference in illumination is just not that big a deal, for me. But if a cloudy lens was a big deal I'd be looking for a way to solve the problem permanently. Walk out in any overgrown field full of antique vehicles before they used plastic lenses and you won't see a cloudy front lens. You'd think with all the aftermarket options someone would come up with that kind of option as a marketing strategy.

Old sealed beam headlights broke and got holed all of the time; yes, they were glass, but they were heavy, not at all impact resistant, and the light they projected sucked compared to modern headlights. I'm thinking in the 20+ years I drove cars with glass sealed beam headlights, I replaced at least a dozen due to being holed or otherwise shattered.

I finally got replacement headlights. Halogen.
Rubbing out only lasts so long.
Plan on getting a driving light strip. To blind the aholes who do not dim their led death rays...

My 2014 has clear lenses on its tail lights - that have never clouded - so Toyota actually knows how to deal with the problem. Headlights went in 6-7 years and fully ruined by clouding. This is a money making deal - pure and simple. Engineering managers that allow this sort of thing need purged.......

Well you must have driven roads I never traveled. I even spent a lot of time on rural, gravel roads. I remember seeing some broken bulbs due to flying rocks, but I never replaced a bulb due to being broken... and I don't remember anyone in the gang I hung around with replacing broken bulbs. I replaced a few because they burned out, but never because the glass broke. As for illumination, I really don't like the LEDs, but yeah, the halogens were an improvement. But that's not the issue I've brought up. I'm wondering if there's a solution to cloudy lenses. Apparently it bothers a lot of people and that's what I'm contemplating. There's got to be a better solution than everyone using chemicals and elbow grease to make a temporary fix that has to be repeated endlessly.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/plastic polishers. I think I have to face the music -- again -- today and get after the leaves. Several trees have finished dropping but we several still to go. Which means this is not my last leaf rodeo!

Yesterday I went to see they guy who sold me the Caterham. We exchanged some parts and had some lunch. He wants me to buy his Lotus Elan, and I'd love to buy it, but it is a project. And I don't need another one just now. Plus it comes with a metric buttload of spares including an entire assembled engine and much more. I don't really have a place for all of it. It's a dilemma.
Headlights have a huge amount of lumens blasting through them from the light bulbs and reflectors behind them. Much more than taillights. I suspect that contributes to the aging process.

Surprising, most of my driving life has been in big cities, and I had issues all of the time. I'd come out, look at my car and see one of the headlights would look cloudy/gray and sometimes even filled with water. Under closer examination I'd see either a pinhole, a hole maybe the size of a dime, or sometimes, even a jagged chunk missing from the lens.
