Whats it going for? Wife needs a rig

 

Turns out I didn’t want to sell it after all. Just got frustrated…still am frustrated. I moved to key west, FL. Lived here for 2 years now. So not much wheeling done with the rig. Hopefully will get stationed in Alaska or the PNW in about a year. I am still running a Bluetooth CV axle. I am almost certain i will be purchasing the solo motor sports fabricated spindle(D44 hub) so i can correct my axle breaking problem because i will have U-joint style axles from RCV. With the fab’d spindle, i would need to get their uniball LBJ conversion.(this would be convenient so i dont ever need to worry about a LBJ failure). All i need to figure out is the misalignment adapter for the bolt that goes from my MCM UCA to the new spindle. SOLO offers an adapter for 140$. I just wander if i will need it. My current misalignment may work for this. Anyone have any ideas? Think i just need to go measure it.

For anyone that’s interested. I spent way too much money and then waited 7 months, but here we are- Dana 44 hubs, manufactured spindles, lower ball joint uniball conversion, and RCV axles. Yes I know everyone is saying I’ll break my front diff before anything. But when that happens, I’ll upgrade that too. IFS for life. Also, time for ABS delete.

 

I never updated y’all. I installed all the above parts from solo motorsports. I drove the truck cross country from Key west, FL to Astoria, Or where I am now stationed(I love it here) my wife, dog and I traveled for 36 days, and camped in our new iKamper 3.0(full size) 29 of those days. We travelled a total of 6000 miles and about 1000 of those miles were spent off-road. Most notable we did the alpine loop, silverton, ouray, ophir pass, cinnamon pass, red cone trail(holy shit). We wheeled near Mt Rushmore, badlands, the plains in Kentucky, the hills in Alabama, mountains in Montana with my uncle, northern idaho at the families lake house, Yellowstone, the grand Tetons, and so much more. before I wheel much again. I need to refresh my rear suspension. Thinking of going with the total chaos fab

still trying to figure out what to do with the leaf packs. Anyone have ideas? I’ve heard of Deaver, Chevy 63’s.

 

Depends on you're needs.

Though I'd maybe do something different to try and at least match the front travel. Stock length leaf spring no matter who makes them won't cycle more than 11".

And the total chaos kit is great but it'll only allow you to run 2.0 rear shocks.

You'd be better off going with a 2.5 inboard than 2.0 outboard.AArchive off-road sells a bracket to fit 2.5s outboard.

Although that is also going to depend on your driving style. If you're not hauling ass everywhere then probably won't matter.

Best thing would be SUA config but that's a bit more involved and you sacrifice bed space and load capacity.

well this is what I have currently and my shocks went on my cross country trip, and my leafs are fucked too, I’ve been bottoming out my shocks on right hand turns. I am just looking for a formidable off-roader with good road driving manners as well. I don’t have the ability to haul ass as I am stock engine, so that’s outta the picture. Haha

 

I also don’t think I want to sacrifice any bed space as we enjoy “weekender-landing”

However, you'll have to run big spacers or get a wider axle to clear 2.5'' shocks.


Your current setup looks...mostly okay. Id sat they upper mounts are too low and lower mounts not quite low enough. You could redo that setup with 2.5 triple bypass 10" short body shocks from ADS and it'd be pretty damn good. I'd go more vertical than angled. Then you just have to get replacement leaves which should be custom from Deaver or Alcan with stock geometery but again that'll only pull 11'' at the most.

If you do the archive kit, get a tundra axle to swap in for more width, then you could do 63s or even a SUA custom setup. Although I don't think the archive kit would work great with a SUA kit due to the increased uptravel so that probably isn't great.

As for hauling ass, 45mph on back roads can feel pretty quick on two tracks with rocks which I guess was what I meant. If you want the rear to keep up with the front, you'll have to get a bit creative. If you're not trying to baja1000 it everywhere then there are options.

 

They're not everyone's cup of tea due to the work to install them but I do really like my Chevy 63s, they ride really comfortably and with a properly tuned shock you can cruise plenty fast.
