Ive run with welded rear ends before, it's a cheap way to get traction. But man is it annoying on pavement with large truck tires. It's one thing when you're a kid with a wannabe drift car on small stiff tires. It's another thing entirely when you're trying to get your vehicle to pivot on concrete with large flexible tires. It fights you and the whole drivetrain bucks and squeals and unloads. It can actually be a spectacle if you're turning into a gas pump or something. I don't know, I'm past that point where I consider it an option for something I would be driving on more than just desert dirt.

Those chirps are tires losing the little traction you may have going around a turn on ice and the vehicle’s inertia has nothing to stop it from moving in the direction away from the center point of what you’re turning around.

Making a turn on ice usually makes use of the different inner and outer wheel speeds where if one slips you have the other with greater grip. If you’re sliding sideways the wheels need to lock into the right inner and outer speeds as well otherwise you might keep doing that or trade the front for the back, going off the side of the road back-end first.

I’m running a Detroit locker. Pretty much next in line as the strongest locker after a spool. And it handles just fine on the streets. Chirps a little bit in a turn when you get on the gas. And the ass wiggles some when you lift off the gas at freeway speeds but other than that bullet proof and always locked when you need it.

My spool wants to rip the pavers up on my driveway… they are definitely hard on axle shafts. I always jack my truck up to release the torsional twisting on the shafts when I park my truck in the garage.

I landed on OVERLAP. The cam should make the engine chop pretty hard so there’s that. I was surprised it wasn’t taken.

I personally wouldn't run a spool unless I had a larger rear end with upgraded axle shafts.

How does spring under do on slower flexy stuff? Not full blown boulder crawling but moderate rocky climbs and off camber situations. Is the only draw back the loss of a few inches below the axle?

I know it all depends on springs, shocks, yada yada...just wondering if go fast suspension is still good for slow stuff too.

    Whole lotta stuff
It's still good. Some SUA setups are better suited than others due to shackle configuration. Inverted shackle, for instance, has lower hanging hangers in addition to the clearance lost on the spring perches. But I actually think SUA complies exceptionally well through the slow stuff, seems to keep the body flatter while keeping tires on the ground (probably due the added up-travel vs. SOA). I'm biased, but my JD setup has the flipped shackle, so no low hangers.

How dumb would mid travel spring under be?

Works great, super flexy. Get hung up on frame due to wheel base 10x more than the few inches of leaf under the axle or shackles.
