My ex used to do that, think she had a crate she'd set out with some kind of bait inside that would drop the door down when they went for it.

She ended up keeping one of them that was cross eyed AF, that was one doofy cat

DNA test came back mostly terrier, jack russell being most likely it

 

That same Jack Russell saved one of my nephew's from being attacked by a pig. Great family dogs
