tilting the seat bottoms ...

haha! you sound like me! Me and my gf were on our way to Charleston and she had to pee. I'm like "first of all, why did you drink that bottle of orange juice and that bottle of cheerwine as soon as we started moving? secondly, you have an empty bottle of orange juice and cheerwine.... why do we have to stop?"

Jen just said that she would pee on my seat and see how I liked that. I swerved towards the exit, but she wouldn't let me stop. "MAKE UP YOUR MIND!"

For a truck, I think the Tacoma is one of the smoothest riding. And she agrees with that. But it is still a truck. Her Pontiac G6 is way smoother. You have to understand that a smooth ride is her number one criteria when buying a car. Everything else is secondary by far.

 

My gf has an old (not sure what year) Toyota Paseo, i think it's the smallest car made in the history of the world, not to mention it has almost 200k on it, so needless to say whenever we go anywhere i take the truck. I wont even ride in that thing down the street to the store. I feel like i'm gonna get crushed by a civic. Plus, the passenger side seat belt is all weird. It latches in two places, but it is not motorized on a track. i have to pull the belt up to latch it to the top (on the right side of my head) and then do a lap belt. its infuriating!!! i told her if i ever found the guy that desinged the seatbelts i would beat his japanese ass (unless he knew karate then i would throw a rock at him and run). Either way her car is completely unacceptable. I love the truck for long trips. It has plenty of space, plenty of power, i like sitting high on the road. it just sucks filling up multiple times in a few days and putting all kinds of miles on my new truck.

 

for those of you who are having trouble with long trips and your legs falling asleep. i have the solution. TAKE LONGER TRIPS, and adjust to it. J/K, the reason why its happening physically, is because you r losing blood flow to your lower extremities (dont freak out, happens when any limb or part of your body falls asleep). if ever driving the quickest way to fix the problem is to do these things called ankle pumps. use your left foot and pretend your pushing down on the accelerator then bring the foot back up, do that a bunch of times that should help. then put the truck in cruise and do it for the right foot, this will force blood flow to increase into your lower extremities, therefore no more "sleepy legs" or you could just get out and walk and stretch,............... and look like an old man.

 

Well, I'm one of those that like the seats, and don't think the ride is bumpy. Armrests? What armrests are you talking about? I don't have any armrests. The center console is too low, and the bottom of the window opening is just slightly too high. We dont gotta show you no stinkin armrests!

 

I am only 5'2" and my legs fall asleep cause my thighs are lower than my knees. I am gonna unbolt my seats and see what I can come up with-no pun intended. Will post my resolution.

 

I haven't had the time to try this myself. Looking forward to the above post!

 

Add me to the list of sleepy butt/leg stuff on long trips.

The seats are comfy, but the seat fronts need to be tilted up to level the thighs/quads.

My friends new Ford Edge the floor is MUCH lower than in the Tacos and that in itself helps get the legs level. And my old Mazada B2500 the floor was lower also keeping the upper legs more level.

My GTi is like the Taco, seat slung low close to the floor BUT, the GTi had tilt seats Drivers and Passengers. That made a HUGE difference, being able to tilt the seat back up or down. to better support the upper legs. Never had the sleepy butt, hips or legs in the GTi. Or maybe I'm too huge for the Taco?

Gunna take a closer look at the drivers seat today and see if a stack of washers between the rails and frame will help (like someone here suggested). I hope its not welded together.

Nope. Just hold it up with the laft hand, undo the lugs with my fingers, pop the flat off, pop on the spare, retighten the lugs toss the flat in the bed and I'm off in 3 mins or less.

There's a joke in here involving jacking and by yourself, but I'm not gonna touch that with a 10 foot pole. I have my limits.

 

Badump bump!

So I came home and looked at the driver's seat and how it mounts.
Simple enough, 4 bolts hold it to the floor.

I removed one bolt and went to the hardware store for longer high grade bolts and washers. After test fitting a few washers here and there, I found the combination I was comfortable with. Had to modofiy the seat mounts just a bit, had to cut off a pin on the bottom front of each track just behind the mounting bolt to get the clearance I needed for the added washers.

The best combination for me is 5 washers each side up front, 1 each side in back all bolts replaced with longer high grade 10.9 hardness bolts.

Test drive, feels muc more comfortable and the seat better supports the upper legs distrubuting the body weight better. If the seats had built in tilt, this is where Id set it.
