This plug brand has been around for years and is the best. If the formulas have not changed, I have used these to plug holes up to 3/8 of an inch in diameter perhaps larger but that work was 30 years ago. They also used to advertise that sidewalls could be plugged.

Finally got her sitting right. Bilstein 5100s with 3” lift, rear AAL, 33” Falken wildpeaks. Kept the stock wheels with spacers. We ended up taking that front flap off, hardly any rubbing. Rode great on the drive home on the highway but can’t wait to really test her out. If you are in the Tacoma area I highly recommend TSL Automotive Specialists, fair prices and honest work.

Flashbacks of a hospital operating room. Everything was blue. Maybe it was the anesthesia. Been there a couple times. Not fun.

The Leer cap was installed and the Bedrug put in place. Now I have a spot for a wet, muddy dog to ride again.
I like the cap and the install was great but maybe it's just me but I notice more road noise with it on. Granted, I only drove an hour or so with it on but I found I had to turn the sound system up a bit more to listen to my programs (podcasts). I'll probably try the swim noodle trick if I continue to be bothered by the noise to see if that alleviates the issue.
I've been reading a bunch of rusted frame threads here lately so I climbed underneath with a good flashlight to check my frame and whatnots under the truck. No sign of rust anywhere thankfully. The first 2 years of the trucks' life were spent in Nevada where even the water is as bone dry as the atmosphere. We moved to the Portland, OR area last year however where it's wetter than wet blanket. Luckily, snow is quite rare and they don't use salt on the roads so I think I'm good to go, as again, no rust spotted.
Next up are some sturdy ramps or jack stands. Despite having plenty of room to wiggle around under the truck, I still let my extreme claustrophobia get to me a couple of times and I had to scramble out of there to breathe more than once..... I had a bunch of older Leer.jpg cousins and uncles who delighted in sitting on my chest as a kid or dog-piling me while playing football. Anyhow, I need more room under there.

When I put my Leer on I didn’t notice any extra road noise, but my hearing is pretty bad. I felt like the truck rode better with the added weight in the rear…also a windshield replacement company here told me they couldn’t re calibrate my TSS in the windshield due to the weight of the canopy and only Toyota could override the settings. All that to say, perhaps the change in weight has changed the way the air passes over/around the truck and that’s causing the added noise? It’s for sure interesting to think about and i never considered that before. I guess that’s the one plus to having bad hearing?

Yeah, it could be me looking for issues that aren't there. I need to get some more time on the road with it I suppose. I was thinking the sound was coming up and concentrating in that profoundly larger narrow gap that was created between the cab and bed. I guess we shall see in the next few weeks. You mentioning that the ride is better with the additional weight will be a pleasant surprise as well as I get some more time with it.

I have to say that after looking at pics of these tires for months and then seeing them installed, I was was blown away by how aggressive looking they are and how quiet they are. Can’t wait for toms of snow and hope they last many many miles.

Total chaos bed stiffeners went on yesterday. Grabbed a bunch of sockets and went to town for about 20-30 minutes.

They are really great all around at tires. I just got rid of a set at 55k... I'm kinda kicking myself for not getting another set....the tires I went with seem like they might be a bust.

I’m excited. On my ‘16 Tacoma I went with a Cooper Discoverer ATP that were a Discount tire exclusive and for half the tread life were great on snow and ice and after that they seemed to get hard and sucked in the winter. I was thinking of getting a different style of Coopers but didn’t want to run into the same problem like I had before. So hopefully the Falkens they stay playable all the way through. I don’t want to have a dedicated snow tire because we can go for a long time with clear roads in the winter so don’t see the need for them.

I think we are all looking for changes in the normal when we put something on or take something off our trucks. I bet you’re right with that gap between the cab and bed. The way air moves around vehicles is pretty incredible
