Bumper rusted off, where to get replacement?

After coming out of a store over the weekend, I noticed that my rear bumper appeared to be crooked (hanging lower on the driver's side). I crawled up under the truck to find that both the bumper bracket as well as one side of the hitch had rusted in half and broken. A couple of ratchet straps got me home, but obviously I gotta fix this. The bumper is pretty dinged up, so I'm going to replace that while I'm at it.

The local dealership quoted me around 800 bucks for new parts. Online it looks like I can get replacement parts cheaper, but I'm unsure of where to order from (I'd rather get genuine Toyota parts than lookalikes). If you were going to order a factory replacement bumper, along with the brackets and a hitch, where would you go to get that?

Obviously, I could go whole hog and get a plate/offroad bumper with the hitch built in, but it's a 12 year old truck that doesn't see a lot of offroad use, so I think going factory (ie. cheaper) is the way to go.

Anyone been down this road? Have any advice to offer?

I got a hitch, bumper bar, and bumper combo for a $100 up here on the marketplace. I had to drive a bit to pick it up but I'm glad I did it.

You'll want to take a view and decide if you can even take your bumper off due to rust. I had to drill out a few of the bolts that broke that held the bumper. The hitch and the bumper bar would not separate cause the bumper bar was toast. My truck had a frame swap so anything in the frame came out but anything screwed into the original bumper bar, not so much. I still managed to do the swap but it was chore. On the other hand if I let it go any longer I might not have gotten the hitch off at all.

If the bumper rusted, how far gone is the frame?

Even a bumper (or brackets) don't rust overnight :bananadead:

I'm not on the east coast, Midwest, what have you but just being on this forum has taught me a few things easily - unless you fully inspect it yourself and verify, anyone else's word is worth crap.

There have been members that posted having bought a vehicle (or already owned a vehicle), with whatever annual inspection is required having passed, only to post later asking if their frame is salvageable.

I'm no expert, just a regular dude that takes care of his stuff.

You should do the same before finding out the hard way some part of your frame is rusted the next go around.

Hell, even manual inspection (while washing the truck, etc) would've shown how bad that bumper bracket was.

Cool story bro. Have any actual advice on where to get a new bumper or do you just like to hear yourself?

That was the advice - inspect it yourself.

But no worries, best of luck to ya.

Mine is about to fall off and my frame is shot

You might have more issues than a bumper

I would agree with you, except... last spring, I knew my frame coverage was about to run out (it ran out this past June). So, I crawled up under the truck, beat on the frame with a ball peen, and didn't find any soft spots. Plenty of (severely) rusted brackets and the like, but the frame is in fairly decent shape itself. I took it in to the dealership for one last inspection, and they didn't find anything either. I had the CRC treatment done when I bought the truck, which I guess saved the frame, but everything bolted to it is shot. I'm planning on hosing it down with Fluid Film over the Thanksgiving holiday. Anyway.... about that bumper...
