Get a Subaru Crosstrek that can tow a tiny trailer if you really need it. 30-ish MPG, fewer $$ than Tacoma. Also has decent-sized COVERED place to carry goods. In AZ covered cargo not so important, in other parts of the country with rain more common, covered is better.

Nothing wrong with renting either a trailer (only as needed) or the U-Haul from HomeDepot (only when needed).

We currently only have one vehicle and are planning to get a 2nd one next year. Also, I’m not comfortable driving around with a dolly attached

Ford maverick is a better choice for most truck owners 95% of the time. That 5% of the time is not negotiable for some purchasers.
Ridgeline is a good choice for some; but it’s expensive and gets crap gas mileage for its capabilities.

In this case it sounds like one of them would be a better fit for the OP, just deciding on how much to pay for what level of quality. The Ridgeline will most likely be running well after the maverick is in the junk yard, but at 5k miles a year that problem will probably be someone else’s.

OP, Ridgeline is a great truck and I think damn good looking too after the update they did a year or two ago. If it came with a stick shift, I’d probably own it over a Tacoma. Absolutely drives better and has more space. Trust me most of the folks on here don’t camp, go outdoors, or off-road either - they feel the need to look the part and spend $$$. As a homeowner, it is absolutely worth having a pickup truck… after you have it you’ll use it more than you think. Another good option is to get a Subaru/small SUV & utility trailer but it can be annoying to store a trailer and is also annoying to lug it around vs just having a truck bed available. Here in Ohio you have to pay to register a trailer each year too.

Probably not the "correct" place to ask this but as a Ridgeline owner, what in the world is the double fan grill looking thing under the Ridgeline? This caught my eye on an article about the 2024 Ridgeline. Does yours have this?

I think that might be air conditioning for cat converter thief’s. :D

Or water propulsion for crossing streams?
