The GX pressure sensor has 3 pins because of the auxiliary AC condenser fan. This is actually also a (port I believe?) option on Tacomas sold in hot climates. My wife’s cousin lives in Cabo. His Tacoma came with it, and some folks on here retrofitted those to increase idle AC performance in hot weather. Probably not needed here in the PNW, at least not yet lol

Could not find the leads for that mod. Sounds like a plan since I’ll be closer to the desert next year.

Here’s the TSB. says it’s for 2015 but should fit 2005-2015. Worst part is probably discharging the system to install the pressure switch.

Can confirm it fits my 14, I put it on mine this summer but the kit is like $600.
I have a list of part numbers that come in the kit if anyone wants it.

Would you do it again tho? As in, was it worth the money/effort?

I mean it's pretty easy to install aside from having to recover and recharge the refrigerant to install the pressure switch.
It's hard to justify the cost of it, it doesn't seem to help it cool the truck down any faster sitting still but it does seem to help keep it cooling better once it has cooled down.
I did it more to try to give the A/C all the help I can, hopefully also to extend the life of the compressor. Our summers are brutal here, A/C compressors don't live long here.
We replaced so many grenaded compressors this year it was ridiculous.

If one just wanted to add the fan and just wire it to a relay the P/N for just the fan is 88590-35040, it's $388.

Logically I think I know the answer but would like to ask anyway. If you install just the fan, is it correct that the new P/N fan assembly would replace the current fan? And the difference between the current fan and the new P/N version is it draws more power which results in an increase in CFMs, is that correct?

If these assumptions are correct, is it fair to say that all the supply outlets have the same relative increase in airflow rather than a majority of increased airflow seems to be directed to the floor mounted supply outlets or more to the center dash outlets or more to the driver side or passenger side, etc...

Yea except you would have to find a Mexico spec Tacoma or get super lucky to find a crashed one that had the kit installed.

No it's an additional fan that goes out in front of the condenser to help provide additional airflow across it when sitting still and during low speed driving, it has nothing to do with the blower in the cabin.

This is what it looks like installed with the grill removed.

Actually on the GX it's an actual pressure transducer instead of a simple switch like the Tacoma uses so it would not work to trigger a condenser fan or for a cutout switch on the Tacoma.
The P/N for the Mexico spec (TSB update) switch is 88645-04070 but it uses a different connector (4 pin instead of 2 pin), fan cuts on at about 220 psi.

So the way it is supposed to work...
    • The additional fan pulls increased airflow over the condenser to cool the refrigerant gas temperature coming from the compressor.
    • By cooling the refrigerant, the condenser lowers the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant before it enters the evaporator which should cool the air inside the cabin because the lower temperature and pressure of the refrigerant increases cooling capacity of the evaporator which cools the cabin
    • In addition, an additional fan should also reduce the stress and heat of the compressor by increasing the airflow over the condenser, which again helps the condenser dissipate more heat from the refrigerant which should lower the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant before it reaches the compressor.
    • The lower pressure and temperature should mean less work for the compressor which reduces the risk of the compressor overheating.
...I think I have it straight.

There's a little more to the refrigeration system than that but that sums it up pretty well:thumbsup:

This is what I am talking about. On the Tacoma it appears it is just a ground that gets connected or disconnected when the pressure meets a specified amount.

    upload_2023-11-7_0-16-19.png

And on the GX you get this mess. (see below)

What I was thinking is this:

Green wire pin 9 disconnect from GX ac amp connect to Tacoma AC amp Orange wire Pin 5.
Black wire pin 10 disconnect from GX ac amp and connect to ground.
Install two pin pressure switch from Tacoma at the end of both of those wires.

    What do you guys think?

Fuck those fittings. Works fine in your case, but I looked and looked and looked for a fitting that connects up to the evaporator. Couldn’t find anything short of $200 used oem lines. Had some AN connections soldered to the evap bungs. Once my engines back, my dummy Tacoma ac amp should be able to handle everything.IMG_6377.jpg

Nice work, that looks clean. What are you using as a "dummy tacoma ac amp"?
