Here is the board that will become the seat of the bench. I need 66" and I will get it out of the middle of this 10' board Width of board above is 16", will take an inch off to 15". Use the two ends as firewood or bird feeder lol. Also, I ran out of CA glue and activator on the table build and new glue won't be arriving until Wednesday. See that knot circled in red? The cracks go all the way through, it will be in the seat so I want to make sure it stays there lol. If you have never used glue that dries in 5 seconds once activated, read up on CA. I basically fill the crack and it is liquid. Spray it with activator and instant hardness. It is great. Legs are in the cutting department lol. Legs will be miniatures of the table legs. Oh, barrel nuts won't be here until Friday for the leg anchor board. Decided to go with Red Oak on the seat. It is a bit softer than Pecan and much "clearer," meaning less knots and grain deviations. Not as pretty as the table top but nice and strong and a bit more flexible.

I use CA all the time, great for wood turnings. I do find that the activator makes the glue kinda brittle and hard where as a slow cured CA isn't so brittle. I notice the difference when I'm scraping the excess dried glue off a board.

Another thing that's wierd about the activator is it instantly sets of a reaction to harden and it also off gasses. The fumes will burn your eyes, not permanent just an irritant.

My brother uses Starbond CA glue. Apparently it’s good stuff. I’m not the woodworker, he is. Here’s a table he made. IMG_6070.jpg IMG_6071.jpg

I like CA glue, but I mostly use it for non-wood projects.

The brittleness of the activator hardened CA can be a benefit if you are gluing a jig down and need to remove it easily.

    Favorite tool in your box/shop?
I thought about this as I grabbed my all time favorite tool in my shop. I have fancy tools, power tools, etc. But, my favorite tool is one I made out of necessity 40 years ago. I needed a short hammer, I had no short hammer, so I quickly made one with what I had available. Still using it 40 years later haha.
    20231106_215302.jpg 20231106_215255.jpg
I have huge hands but this hammer is like 8" long. I have 20 other hammers but this is my go to!
    Your favorite?

My wife thinks I'm crazy for this..but I have contingency plans in place for power outages and such., I keep a little over 14 gallons drinking water on hand. Have a 3 day food supply that wont spoil. A small generator for power outages 2000w (mainly for heat in winter ) and several independent heat sources if the generator doesn't work or doesn't last long enough.

My electric comes from a rural co-op, they are really good about keeping the lights on and also when you call a person answers the phone.

Downtown is on Penelec, they are reliable but it is almost impossible to talk to a person if you ever have to call.

We have water, canned goods & related and a propane range.

For heat there are kerosene heaters & currently almost 7000 pounds of coal.

I have a small generator that will run the fridge, freezer, furnace or pump - just not two at once. There is usually about 10 gallons of gas too.

@hiPSI for my favorite tool that’s a tough one. My dad made a electric extension cord in school for electrical engineer I love taking that out and using it on projects and to think it has built 3 different homes and a barn

My favorite tool doesn’t get used much anymore- a Sears floor jack I got when I was 15. Small, light and compact. Still works after 40+ years.

Good morning friends! Hope everyone has an amazing day!!!

My favorite tool, I'll have to think about that one for a little bit.

I talk to people that know we've moved and they all say the same thing.."an hour commute, that's got to be tough".....actually, no it isn't. It's all in your perspective. Since the time changed my drive changed, I get to watch the sun wake up and man is it amazing. There's also no traffic when I come to work or when I go home so there's that icing on the cake as well.

The 2nd and 3rd pics are Belews Creek steam station, they bought the local natural gas company several years ago and ran a line to the plant. Not sure if they use the gas yet or just coal. Both stacks usually have something coming out, one just started again last week. They were both empty. @tacotoe any insight on that?
