New 2023, my 4th Tacoma since 1998. Thoughts on extended ToyoCare? I rack up miles driving about 550 mile a week. I also read to shop the price,, does that mean I can by out of state as long as it is a Toyota deal rather than just a state or regional offer?

If you are unable or unwilling to save and self insure after your factory warranty expires, then I guess you could consider buying one if it will help you sleep at night. But they are cash cows for the sellers or they wouldn't sell them.

I personally roll the dice and those extended warranties and never buy them. But I do aggressively save some cash during the factory warranty coverage period so I have a nice chunk of cash later in case something significant breaks. But then again, what the hell do I know.

    Carry on!

I have bought 4 Toyotas from the same dealer here in my area. When I bought my 23 Tacoma they offered me a transferable 10/100 bumper to bumper for $700. I figured $700 over 10 years is a good enough deal for me.

Sorry no. I think I misread your original post. That’s the extended warranty. I only have the 2 year Toyota care. FWIW I don’t use the Toyota Care. I change the fluids and rotate the tires myself.

Yea the other 3 Tacomas I have had, I just used the factory Care and after, arranged whatever maintananace I need when I needed.
Someone had a good point that the cheapest normal service will be is right here right now and those oil changes could be costly 5-10 yeasr down the road, and your paying at todays prices!

They sold me on it. I have a TRD Pro. I figured if one headlight or a uca or fox coil over goes bad at $700 up front I’m covered.

A transmission failure could cost $3500+
A leaking coolant bypass tube, $3000+
    An ECU…….who knows

    A 10 year/125k warranty cost me 1795
if I don’t need it, then I bought peace of mind. If I do need it, then it was well worth it

I bought extended care for a ford F150 and it paid for itself about 5x over, if I had bought the Tacoma new from a dealer I would have also gotten the extended coverage. It's as been the only vehicle I've owned in the last 20 years where that extended warranty cost would have been wasted. Nothing really warrantable up to 140K. Despite that if my next one comes from the dealer it'll have the extended care. I look at them as catastrophic coverage, tranny, motor, PITA repairs that I can't or don't want to perform.

    Yeah.
OP is talking about the maintenance plan, not the extended warranty. Both are a personal choice. I chose neither.

Find a reputable shop for tire rotations and oil changes. Save your money.

    ADDED:

What I learned from the dealership I go to in Dover, DE...

Take in your truck for tire rotation and they will do a Multi-Point Inspection for $20.

I got tire/brake wear analysis and if they topped any fluids on the report.

It's documented maintenance and updates on your CARFAX VIN profile.

I do my own oil changes and check fluids so the service Rep suggested just the tire rotation/multi-point inspection.

Maintenance plan, no way. Most dealerships have the inexperienced newer hires doing the basic stuff like oil changes and tire rotations, and you’re paying about double what a mom and pop shop would charge. And I know a lot of small shops that only have one or two mechanics doing it all too, so IME you’re more likely to get a more competent tech at a small shop than a dealership when it comes to basic maintenance. Lots of people on here including me have had overtightened filters at the dealer, or too much/not enough oil put back in (or none at all), forgetting to put oil caps back on, over inflating tires, etc… dumbass shit.

Extended warranties are usually a big hell no for me on anything and everything. But after learning on here that Wolverine Toyota in Michigan was selling Toyota VSAs (the factory warranties) for dirt cheap compared to local dealers, I bought a 10 yr/100K VSA for $1360ish IIRC. I’ve averaged 9500 mi/year over the past 3 years since I bought it, so that’s perfect. The only longer plan they offered was a 10 yr/125K for about $400 more, but I figured I’d time out at 10 years before the extra milage.

And I treat this truck super nice with 5K oil changes, and do every factory recommended service on time. If there’s no major problems in the 1st 10 years, I’ll be confident it’ll go 300K, as earlier 3rd gens are already proving to do now. And if I have even one computer failure, timing cover leak, coolant bypass pipe leak, head issue, etc… It paid for itself. I got one for my wife’s 4runner too, and it already paid for itself a couple months ago when her 4 XREAS shocks were leaking and they replaced the whole system under warranty at 6 1/2 years old/65K (which would’ve cost over $2K without the VSA).

Crap…..missed that. Thanks for the correction.

There is no way I would buy a vehicle service plan from Toyota. factory extended warranty service plan, no

I too don't buy into that extended warranty bullshit, but unlike you, I spend copious amounts on hookers and blow while hoping that nothing goes wrong with my truck. To each his own.
