Howdy everyone. I'm newish to the forum, have a '97 Taco that was a hand-me-down from my dad (he bought it brand new). My plan was to mod it and keep it, but with two other 15+ year old cars in the garage I've decided to sell the truck and replace it with something new. I've tried to put a number on my taco and the prices I've seen for what I have seem to be all over the place so I'd love some help from the forum for what everyone thinks is a realistic value for what I have. It's a '97 with just under 120,000 original miles. No accidents, it's been a really great truck for the family over the years. It's had two clutch slave cylinders and an ECM about five years ago, and I replaced the starter about two months ago. other than that it's had just typical service and wear items. It's an old truck so it does have some things that need to be addressed that I was planning on doing if I was going to keep it:

valve cover gasket is starting to leak
CD and tape players don't work, radio is fine so it could use a new double-DIN head unit
lock cylinder on the fuel door doesn't lock, I have a magnet holding the door closed
very intermittent SRS light, it's the clockspring (I can hear it when the light comes on)

it could use some cosmetic TLC. Theres a dent in the right bedside at the leading edge about the size of a sheet of notebook paper, my dad hit his table saw in the garage a few years ago. paint isn't scratched, it's just a big indentation. Truck spent almost its entire life in Florida, so the paint and lights are oxidized and could use some buffing (paint is single stage white). Interior is super, super clean. The holes are in the floor mat only, carpet underneath is fine. No smokers in the family. Engine runs smooth, gearbox shifts as it should. I know the wheels are straight up fire already, so please hold back on the compliments.

Greatly appreciate any help. I'm looking at replacing this with a new Taco or a new Frontier.

Hey Chihuahua, I saw this and I decided to give it a look. It really depends on the state you live in. I live in Maine, so if you just look under the truck that's where most of the value is because we have extreme rust issues up here. Another aspect is the fact that your Tacoma is a 2wd rather than a 4wd, so that is another price point. The leaky valve cover you might want to fix, the gasket is about 50 bucks, but it will also increase your value by a few hundred bucks so it is probably worth it. In order to get a good price, I will have to see under the car and what state you live in.
Oh and btw your brakes engaged you probably know but just wanted to double check.

KBB and NADA will give you an idea.

Yep, NADA used to be a great site until JD Power took it over, now it's hot garbage. The last time I looked at KBB it was around 6K which seems awfully hard to believe. It's a clean, low mileage truck that runs like a champ so there's definitely a lot of good life left in it. I'm going to price it at $3500 and see what happens, already replaced it with a 2023 Frontier Pro-X. Thanks for all of the responses, appreciate it.

Don't do that, price it at $6,500 and see what happens. It'll sell within an hour at $3,500.

That's my goal, fire sale it ASAP. I have too many vehicles at the house (currently at four, Taco sale gets me back down to 3).

With that low of miles, and how clean it is you are likely leaving a lot on the table posting at 3500. If stepping outside and lighting $2000 on fire doesn't bother you then go for it. I would post at $6000-6500.
At least in my market, Arizona, $3500 gets you a truck with severe body damage and has 200-300k+ miles.

Where I live, a rust bucket that's uninspectable is around 3k. because it's 2wd it might be a little less but I would go for 6.5k and see if it sells there, and in a week move your price down.

OK everyone, appreciate all of the input. Definitely don't want to short change myself at $3500. I'll go for 6K and see what happens.

Pricing here in the midwest has substantially dropped in the last few months. They sell, but less $ than 1 year ago for sure.
