Smelled burning oil on the bike the other day, thought it was leaking out of the shifter as it was a mess under there.
Turns out, I may be oiling the chain a bit much. :p

This type of crap is happening across the board unfortunately.... "bUiLD BaCK BettER" I suppose....

The company I work for just did an 8% pay cut across the board for ~400 employees (after minimal to zero raises over the last 3 years), We have seen the same higher benefits costs with less benefits over the recent years as well.

All the while the head of the company lives in a 1.8 million dollar house for free (owned by the company), pays zero in utilities / housekeeping / gardening, and gets 500k a year before retirement benefits.

Needless to say its getting tougher and tougher to be motivated at work to do actual work.

Sure, but I’m not new to riding so I don’t think the difference in power will really hurt me, either.

My first track day I rode a Daytona 675 and the second day I was on an FZ09 and didn’t have an issue with either.

I guess I just don’t know if it’s better to have a dedicated street bike vs track bike or just focus on one bike.

just a couple of things tbh
ya i feel that ive talked with a friend of mine and she likes the idea of a grom to rip around on one day but i cant justify one since i have a super moto which is a grom but taller lol

    easy solution... buy more bikes!

My garage is full and currently a mess. No more bikes lol.

Also speaking of Groms, just do it. I love mine so much and am always looking forward to taking it out to practice my wheelies.

Exactly. My little 500 will do everything the Grom does, but with more street chops. The Grom gets better fuel economy, but I'm not complaining about the 70 MPG average I currently have. If I were interested in learning to wheelie I might consider a grom, but for the price I could fix my current bike after some wheelie spills quite a few times and still be money ahead. If a Grom was $2K-$2.5K OTD, sure. For what they cost, not even on my list.

I think the bigger issue is injuring yourself falling off the CB.

That's the concern with a wheelie in general, though. The CB doesn't have the power to loop itself and it's only a couple inches taller in the seat, so I don't think fall is going to be much more from it than a grom. I've outgrown the modding phase, so all I want on a bike is some crash protection and a skid, so the aftermarket whizzbangs and doodads aren't a draw either. I can appreciate the Grom for what it is and what it offers, and I think they are neat, but I can appreciate it without wanting one.

I see room for at LEAST two more bikes in there

    upload_2023-11-7_9-32-47.png

I did 5 bikes plus my wifes jeep in a single car garage before

Also, off topic, but how is the new job going?

My 164cc Grom gets ~75-85mpg depending on the riding, big bore things. I havent ridden the lil thing in over a month, probably closer to two as the big super tenere is so much easier to get on and go longer distances comfortably at speed (and still gets around 40mpg)... Im seriously considering selling the grom and living without it or replacing it with something like a CB300R (which would be a much better lil round town / commuter) - Grom costs me 140$ in reg a year, and like 50 in insurance.... so its not too much of a money sink but if its not being used I dont like stuff that just sits

This is where I think I'd be at. If a Grom was right next to my CB I'd get on the CB 99 times out of a hundred.

Dont get me wrong the grom is fun, its filled a fun void (the street legal pit bike) but I think im done with that phase of life.... key word, THINK. (I have had my above thoughts for awhile then I get on the danged thing for a lil ride and have a big smile and get all the memberberries)

Jenga? You stacking them up and hoping they don't fall when you pull one out? :boink:

Legit question, what makes a bike a Super Moto? Is it just street tires on a dirt bike, or is there more to it than that?

That's how I think the CB500X will be for me. I'm kind of holding off on a bigger bike until I can decide if I need to get the funds for it separate, or if I am willing to sell/trade the 500 to cover a chunk of the cost.

I think sometimes I'm one of the oddballs in this thread too as I don't get the Grom fascination either. They're neat and I see a lot of cool stuff being done with them but have zero desire to own one. Couldn't really commute on it as I need to do interstate for almost half my trip. Much of my riding leans toward long distance stuff and touring so not practical for that purpose.

What about an older Z50, CT70 or CT90/110? Would those pique your interest? I feel like the Groms are just the new generations version of the classic Honda mini bikes (even thought they're making all the monkeys and trails again hah)

Yup. I think they are cool, just like all bikes are cool, but I don't necessarily want all of them. Mini bikes and dirt bikes just don't do it for me.

 I'm sure she didn't like that one lol. In that conversation with my mother yesterday, I mentioned how driving can be just as dangerous and reminded her of her recent accidents. She didn't like that much either

    Whew glad to hear it!

I'm shopping around for KTM's right now. also Ninja 400s and R3's lol. I've heard the same and intend to find out.

If you have the funds I'd say dedicated or mostly dedicated street and track bike. I plan to keep my incoming track bike just legal enough to ride on the street without calling attention (IE keeping the headlights, signals, mirrors) for now. Not chasing lap times or records so weight reduction isn't really an issue, but it would only stay street legal as a backup to my daily.
Welcome to the Motorcycles BS thread :boink:

I'm with you. They're cool for sure, but I just don't have a need for them. Can't commute, can't get to the canyons or any decent riding unless I just ride along the coast, which where I live is pretty straight and boring.
