    Hi All,

Need some of your collective brain power.

Today, wife was driving the truck. She parks and when she returns it won't budge. Reverse, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Nothing gets it to move.

I suggested putting it in 4H and she was able to drive it a short distance home.

I wasn't there during any of this, but when I got home I put it back in 2WD and of course it seems to drive fine.

I have an '08, V6, 6 spd manual, ~200k miles. Haven't had problems with the rear diff, transfer case, transmission up until now. I did look under the truck. Honestly just trying to see if something was majorly abnormal. The drive shaft hasn't fallen out, everything looks like it did 2 days ago when I replaced the oil.

OP, just curious as to whether the clutch has ever been replaced? Some of these that had engagement problems had the center of the clutch disc coming apart.

I'll have to ponder this a bit as why it was a RWD thing.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’ll guess a broken or frozen rr parking brake cable

Wife drove it. Sorry for your loss.

Did she maybe accidentally put the T case into neutral somehow and not realize it? When she was fiddling with 4wd maybe she engaged it again?

Was it just revving up or did it act like its stuck? Any moisture will cause the rear drums to "seize" when the parking brake applied. Makes sense as it's a manual. Putting it in 4WD gives it the extra oomph to get it to break free. I'm probably completely wrong here, but just throwing it out there.

yeah that kinda makes sense, same happened to me after taking a boat out. First time I was able to put it in 4lo and pop it out. Second time it was stuck hard and wouldn’t budge at all. Luckily I was in my driveway so I jacked it up and hammered the drums till they popped free.

OP, any wet weather or deep puddles she may have crossed through?

It has not had the clutch replaced. Has been shifting fine leading up to this. I did the transmission fluids ~40k miles ago, and have plans to do again this weekend

    All great ideas.

It's New Mexico in Fall, so there hasn't been any water for a while. The parking brake has been a bit sticky. I'll look up the instructions and maybe swap it out.

Next time it happens, try getting unstuck in reverse (or at least alternate pushing directions).

My parking brake got stuck once after I washed the truck, so I tried it in reverse (hearing that drums are weaker in that direction), and it popped free right away. (This was in my Tacoma).

My own mother taught me how to drive stick. At 67 she can still drive my truck if need to be, and has.

My mom taught me on Chevy 450 Dually. Know far too many braggarts (all male) that talk a big game but can'. But while this topic is devolving into spray, I'm still trying to fix it.

Today it acted up on me. Drove fine for a couple of days. Today, it would not go into gear with the clutch to the floor and the engine running. However, I could turn off the truck put the clutch in, and put it in gear.

I was able to limp it home. I noticed that even with the clutch to the floor, it's not truly in neutral. It's still rolling slightly forward. Turn the engine off and shifts great.

Clutch master cylinder looks good (no obvious leaks)

    Any thoughts?

Just a thought. Maybe good, maybe bad...

There is a small bushing on the end of the shifter that is a wear item. When it wears, it doesn't like sliding into gear. Swapped mine a couple of years ago and it was better. That said, I never had an issue get a gear, but I was grinding gears way more often

This won't help much but I had a 3rd gen pro do this to me when I was a valet.

I put the parking brake down, shifter into the reverse and let the clutch out.
    Truck goes no where.
Put it in first and same thing.
I put it 4wd and it drives perfectly fine.

I never really got am explanation as to what happened. I put the truck back in 2wd when I parked it and the owner picked it up and left. Always found it strange.

Time for a new clutch and pressure plate. You are at the end of it's life. Every yota I had acted the same way at the end of it's clutch life. You will likely find it acts a bit differently depending on temperature.

pump 20 times and see how it is after
