    You could get a $20 rear wifi cam that mounts above license plate....

    but instead mount it in the engine compartment facing the gauge

    ladder rack, broken tailgate, DiY bumper
    Maybe a series of mirrors and tubes, like a periscope or CNC laser table. Rule out any electronic failure.

    Or just bore a hole thru the dash, looking directly at the fuel rail. Doesn't get any more direct than that.
