Do you know how much air an engine consumes… a LOT (3.5litres x 1,000’s per minute) Drilling a hole will do nothing to help stop fluid getting sucked in.

No one is being brutal......how long have you been on TW?!?
    This isn't jack squat.
From experience with a similar set up is where some friendly warnings come from the fork-ups of others.

Just trying to save the OP however many thousands of dollars a rebuilt or replaced engine will cost.
    Take it however you'd like.

That reminds me of something I was watching on another forum. Earlier this year someone got carried away with a backyard project and started digging a hole in the ground for no apparent reason. Half the commenters told this person to stop, that it was dangerous and that he was digging his own tomb. The other half told the first half to not be so mean. 4 months ago the person made a post about thanks for the concern, their hole is now 17 feet deep and he promised to be very careful from now on. He hasn't made a post since then. Maybe he stopped, maybe he became a fossil. No one knows.

I don't know why I thought of that. Is OP going to die over a weird intake? No. Is he going to fuck up the truck? Maybe, maybe not. Is the truck going to benefit in any way from an added air path? Absolutely not. Are there better ways to do a PVC intake? Yes.

I vote stop before possibly ratfucking the truck. Read these for a more creative use of PVC. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cowl-induction-snorkel.525314/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-cowl-induction-snorkel.731453/

I still believe that stock intake is best intake, but if one insists on messing with the one part that's already way overbuilt for the engine, ^^^ those are more interesting.

I will be the first to admit I don’t really know what I’m doing lol, I am a high school student and this is my first vehicle. In my head it seemed to make some sense. Now I know though! Will be re-installing fog light and looking into the previously mentioned cowl intake.

No one ever knows what they are doing the first time around.
How do you think babies are able to do such amazing things, just based on experimenting and eventually messing up.
That is how we gain experience and wisdom.

Up to a point yes. Farting around and blowing things up is great for developing the basic concept of things, and I'll be the first to admit, it's a fun way to burn time. :burp::cookiemonster:

The great and wonderful thing about being a human however is that we are capable of transferring said experience and wisdom without using the hands on approach. I think I've been in the science world for too long - I'm a professional farter-arounder. Its actually my job. In my world however things are a little more pragmatic: the first step to developing a new idea or method is to take a couple of hours sitting in front of the Google machine and seeing if another human has invented a similar wheel.

Most of the time there is a document that approaches my problem from a different angle, and it gives me perspective on things. In my line of work it allows me to skip straight to the find-out phase and I can skip past the worst of the fuck-around portion. I'm not saying farting around is bad. I do it often myself. But every once in a while it's good to get on the ol' internets to grab a travel guide for your misadventures, so that you don't risk breaking something important. :bananadead:

    this is all too true.

it is almost an improbability anymore to have a genuine entirely-new, previously-undocumented thought of any sort of project/creation/modification.

but that's actually really good news. it means that if you have an idea, start digging into google for similar ideas(i've ended up on vw vortex more times than i can count, and i've never even liked vw's). someone else likely not only did your basic concept, but paid hard to fail a few different ways, so anyone that does the research to locate that initial concept can save significant money on the some of the past pitfalls of the design.

i routinely spend years on concepts i have, between online research, and just plain mulling it over in my head...

my cars custom reverse light for instance, has been in progress since 2013. i had the initial design finalized by 2015. but the optics i needed didn't exist until 2018, and the water cooling that it needs didn't really work out in my head until the last 6 months, partly parts sourcing/costs, and partly functionality/operations.

idea's and working out the first pitfalls of the idea are always free!

Plowing through water fast enough to force it up towards the engine, a small hole as an "overflow" is also underwater.

When you get out of the water finally, the exit hole being 1/10 the size of the intake will take long to drain.

The exit hole being large enough to offset water-intake defeats the purpose of the "intake" because the exit hole is too large.

TW crew ... did I miss something?

Major in geology, take a minor in either GIS or chemistry.

Oil and gas always cycles between boom/bust, but mining is ramping up like crazy thanks to lithium. There's a desperate shortage of mine geologists right now.

Plus, you go camping for college credit. It's the funnest of majors.

Thank you Mr. Wise old lobster I appreciate it. I have been struggling to narrow my sights on something to major in as I enjoy most subjects in school. I am taking chemistry right now and I don't think I would mind doing it for my profession if I got to go camping for college credit.
But the real reason is I don't think I want to pass up on the possibility of having the esteemed title of Professional Farter Arounder.
