This took me considerably longer than I expected it to. I cut in January and planned to wheel in May. I’m hoping I can catch the last few parts I need for the rear on sale around thanksgiving or Christmas and then be ready to do it all over again this winter.

I haven’t even considered that the brake master won’t hold up. Maybe a newer 4runner brake master would work too though. Something that had bigger discs front and rear.

IMO, your stock 3rd gen 4R 1" MC will work fine. My buddy with his solid axle running FROR tundra brake up front and a 80FF disc/drum rear and stop fine with 40. He did delete the ABS and put an in-line, adjustable wilwood proportioning valve.

Good info. Does the prop valve go on the rear or front brake lines (think I’ve typically seen it on the rear)? Maybe it doesn’t matter, as opening/closing the valve changes pressure on the brakes it’s in line with, which in turn the master reduces or increases pressure on the brakes it’s not inline with?

It starts up and runs after almost 2 years. Would’ve been better if I remembered to tighten the fuel line. Once I get drivelines it’s ready for a test drive.

Driveshafts get dropped off tomorrow. Sliders are on. Frame is sitting at 25.5” with 5” up-travel in the front.

Picked up driveshafts today, .095” tubed 5vz shafts. Learned the flange bolt pattern is narrower than the 3vz output flanges. Gonna try to swap out both flanges on the 3vz case with those from the 5vz case and then it’s test drive time.

Out of curiosity, why not tube it with a thicker wall like .120 or .156?

Unfortunately you may run into length issues. According to Tom woods, most of the Toyota flanges are different lengths. I ordered my front shaft with the wrong flange and they had to retube it because the correct flange was like an inch longer.

I will say, getting it out and seeing everything work is so fucking rewarding. I’m excited to see yours done and wheeling.

Local shop would only go up to .095", better than 0.65" which i believe is factory but not as much as I would have liked. Ultimately these will be my street and light trail shafts, i'll make spares that aren't balanced for harder trails.

With the swap? Oh yea. Front was incredible.

Bent one of the rear factory lower links to shit. Had to strap the truck to the trailer and use a winch and a bottle jack to get it mostly straight and weld some angle iron on to keep wheeling. I’ll be swapping the rear in on 63’s this winter lol.

Mine made a few trips down the road and a few laps around the yard before getting loaded on the trailer to get beat on.

Turns out you were right, but I should be ok. 5vz case flanges are ~0.3” shorter than the 3vz flanges. There’s enough slip to easily compensate for the delta.

That’s good! Mine was like an inch and a half different and had to send the driveshaft back from TN to Utah lol
