The DB is the one I want to save up to buy.

Love the rugged look and the capable security it provides.

Here's how to look for a $200 cover and end up buying a $700 cover. (I have a 5 foot bed). Fair Warning!!!
    Step by step instructions:
I looked at the cheaper soft tri folds first. Around $225.
Noticed the $300 options had slightly better material.
Found an OEM knockoff hard cover for $489. Sweet!!!
Noticed Amazon had the BakFlip G2 on sale for $721.
    Before I knew it I ordered a $700 cover!

Here's a link to some pics of my G2. No regrets!

Can anyone recommend a good cover that will work with a canoe rack as well?

How do the seals on the X4S perform in rain? I’m in the market for a cover to go with my soon to arrive truck.

Went with the BAK Revolver X4S recently, got a good deal from @truckalter ($835 after BAK rebate which might've ended in August). Water leaks seem to be minimal but still waiting for a big rainstorm to see what happens. Not like I keep priceless works of art stored in the back though so not concerned...

The quality control from BAK these days seems suspect based on what I've read and heard and I'm not sure if I'll purchase that brand again:

    1. The lock on the driver side wasn't aligned on end slat so it bounced off the side rail, preventing a secure lock on the latch. I had to remove the self-tapping screws, push it into the end slat 0.25" so it was flush and then re-tap the screws. The passenger side was perfectly aligned.
    2. The holes for the side rail closest to the bumper weren't aligned well to the Taco's factory side rail holes. The bracket barely fit and is 0.25" away from being useless.
    3. There were metal shavings all over the cover when I opened it and on closer inspection there are cuts into the bottom side of aluminum slats that weren't painted. Assuming they were miscuts during manufacturing or something. Doesn't appear to affect functionality or anything but still weird.
    4. Some of the slats arrived unlinked which caused the cover to not lay flat. It is possible to link them together but it is about as painful as you'd suspect, lots of F bombs.
    5. The plastic end caps are massive POS's. One of them arrived with the clips broken and wouldn't stay, and judging by the negative reviews on Bak's site this is extremely common and they haven't bothered to iterate on the design. I glued and bolted them to the top cover with a black plastic bolt cover to somewhat blend into the design. Without the end caps it'd look terrible and would leave a large hole for water to get in.
    6. The side rails have super sharp ends that were just straight cut. No paint or smoothing done from factory. I'm not super concerned but it doesn't look good and I don't want to be out camping in the middle of nowhere and have me or a friend slice themselves on my truck bed. I'm going to file them down at some point and possibly rattle can.

So the cover looks pretty good and is low-profile but the lack of polish and quality control from factory is worrisome. I hope it holds up well and those issues don't turn into something larger.

Most here are going to say go with the Bakflip MX4 or Diamondback. Others who refuse to spend that much money will say Truxedo or Gator.
FWIW, I had soft rollups on all my other trucks and never had any complaints. No issues with leaking or fraying due to cold (I live in midwest, get alot of snow and cold). Ended up getting the same one for the Taco and hated it. Leaked like crazy no matter what I did to seal it up and not as secure being a rollup. The Tacoma bed is different than alot of others out there as you will soon find out. I ended up sending it back for a refund and went with the Lomax hard tri fold. Great hard cover and not too crazy expensive. No drilling required and can still use bed rails. It doesnt flip all the way up like the MX4, but I dont like to block the rear window anyways. So fully removing it takes about 20 seconds. There is a thread on here that is 50 pages long that will tell you all you need to know about it. Get a hold of Luke at Truck Alterations on this forum and he will hook you up with a good price.

Not a popular one but I have the Leer HF650M. It’s a tri fold but not like most it has 4 panels. Because of the 4 panels when fully open it sits lower than the cab so the third brake is still visible. It’s not 100% water tight but it’s pretty good. I also like that there’s no drain tube involved. Another thing to add is the cover has prop rod so it does not rest on your cab.

Lomax trifold over 2 years in the rust belt still going strong. No changing rails goes on in a few minutes and off in a minute or so to access full bed. Very secure as long as you lock your tail gate and fairly water resistant. Dealer on hear will get you a good deal. If your not going to use your full bed much then save your money for a diamond back since it’s the best out there.

I'm saving for a short bed Sport. It has gotten lots of use moving things from storage to our home for an HOA Garage Sale last weekend.

In heavy rain, a little gets in at the corners. About what I expected.

I wanted a Diamondback but didn't want to deal with removing it whenever I needed access to the full bed.

Previous truck had an Extang Solid fold and I loved it. Went with a Lomax due to the popularity of it and wish I stuck with the Extang. I figured the Lomax being aluminum would be better but I've found the panels aren't cut cleanly. The cut areas also aren't coated well and the there's bare aluminum in areas.

I have the Retrax One XR Tonneau Cover. It's built like a tank ! They cut through soft covers around here. It supports 500 lbs even distributed. The down side is that you loose about 6" for the cartridge. With a short bed it might matter. (Oh yeah it's pricey! saved $400 on Labor day sale)

0 regrets on my end with the same.

As many have said in the thread for Diamondback.
You think the lack of full bed access will be annoying when hauling you quickly learn to just put everything on top and it's no issue at all.

Kept thinking how will I haul 2x lumber or sheet goods. Then I had to. No issue.
Just make sure you have good straps that fit the tie downs (I say this because the ones I originally had although they were good the hooks were to big for the cleats

Do you happen to recall where you got the weather seals? Were they the ones that go in between the panels? We are trying to find a fix to some that are pretty gunky/gooey, maybe from a bad cleaning product or something, but they really are a mess

It to mention you haul things on top of them when the bed is full. That was the selling point for a DB for me and I like it a lot.

    @Spadi_5

I was just given approval for purchasing the DB/SE.

Once I found out I was offered the job I interviewed for on Nov 1st, my wife immediately said..."you can get that tonneau cover you want."

I said, "I'm gonna have to install the Total Chaos Bed Stiffeners (It's my Christmas gift) to support the weight", she seemed to be ok with me installing them before Christmas.

    I'm totally excited! Looks like a 35 day waiting period...but that's OK!
