Currently renting and that’s not really a viable solution for most people in that situation. The added inconvenience simply trumps the potential savings of an EV. Factor in a 9-5, commute time, and it becomes a massive burden to find a public charger if they aren’t offered at your work place. Just one more thing to worry about. I’m sure it will get better but the gov needs to incentivize expansion of public charging infrastructure and maybe even regulate that large corporate owned apartment complexes include chargers at newly built complexes. A large portion of the population in this country, especially in urban areas, is locked out of the housing market due to the ridiculous cost of real estate and stuck renting. If we want large scale adoption we need to make it easier for a majority of Americans to have readily available access to charging networks.

Would assume by 2030 the EV landscape will be better. I for one hate going to the gas station, just another chore. Would love to charge from home. That and an EV dirt bike would great, cruising trails in darn near silence is very appealing. Less maintenance yadda yadda ya…

Unfortunately they aren’t there yet for me to spend my money on them. Have to sit back and watch at this point and venture in time.

Had an opportunity to ride a stark a few weeks back. It was awesome. Not worrying about maintenance and opening up new riding spots due to lack of noise seems like a huge benefit to me. That being said it lacked a little personality and felt a little less cool. Something about hearing that motor scream always puts a grin on my face.

That’s good, hopefully as charging times reduce with better battery tech it will become much more viable to rely on public chargers.

Cool! Rode an Alta a few years ago, really liked it. The lack of range and recharging while camping kills it for me. Being a mountain biker too, the low noise was a plus. One of the main issues with other user groups is the noise. Do love my 2-Strokes, nothing like smelling it on a cool crisp autumn day, but think I can get over it.

A slow charger needs 240v 40 amp each. A fast charger needs 480v 100 amp each. Most buildings have very little extra amperage on their electric service. You aren’t going to install more than one at most buildings without bringing more power in off of the street. That can be big project in many instances.

Yea range is my one issue right now for trail riding. The stark reminded me of my DH mtb actually. You just hear the noise of the tires and overall the bike felt lighter and more nimble. It takes a second to get used to and made me realize how much you rely on engine noise for feedback on regular bikes.

One charger for every 420 people. In my little village of 1100 people, we have 6 gas pumps…and there are (short) lineups fairly frequently. That’s with a 2-3 minute fill time.

A 240V level 2 charger is like a large clothes dryer or oven…true. They also take 3-8 hours to charge a vehicle.

I think the 3-8 hours is empty to 80%. If you just want to top off or get 20mi to get home you would need less than an hour.

Charging an EV is a different mindset than fueling a gas car. Very few top off with gas when at 70-80% because who wants to stop at a gas station every 1-3 days. Then before you know it, you have less than a 1/4 tank. When you top off every night at home, the chances of running out is less likely.

yep, that mindset was what is so hard to embrace for anyone who likes roadtrips of 10+ hours... gas, food, hit the head and roll out is usually like 10-15 min max depending on how many people are in the car. slow and low to wait for a charge requires some zen training or something....

Much less time with the Superchargers. Doesn't seem like it would be to difficult to plan your trip. Pretty sure the Tesla Nav constantly tells you where the nearest charger is.

If it handled like my 23 CRF250R did I’m still staying clear, that chassis is terrible, even with an revalve from FC. Enjoying my 2024 YZ250F these days.
