Looks great. Why not miter the top rail/cap corners? Glue em up with biscuits.

The 16' er is too short to make a miter. It would fit on the inside of the short runs, making me use some sort of butt joint. I thought about biscuits or dowel pins and long screws.

That's unavoidable on decks longer/wider than 16'. How about a butt/scarf joint on top of one of the intermediate posts? Plenty of room for glue & screws.

well we moved since then. But was working great when we left. It does lose time if power is out but easy to set. Def recommend if your water heater is far away from master bath or where ever you intend to use it.

I loved mine in the old house. Would take a good 1-3 minutes to get hot water in the kitchen before i installed it. Luckily mine had one of those like old school time settings where it was just 24 hours with 15 minute "switches" you pulled up for when you wanted it to run.

Yep it was a 24hr dial you pulled the hrs you wanted it to run. Only thing was you had to run shower a little bit to get hot water from master sink but wasnt like before.

yeah i was lucky in the way my plumbing was run (well semi-lucky lol) in that it was basically the "main" line to the kitchen sink with branches off for the sinks/showers so those were short runs (like 10ft) vs the ~60ft for the kitchen

Seems like they work well but I have an oil burner system and it didn’t look ideal for that use? Makes my boiler run often?

Yeah I was thinking it would trigger my hot water heater which is essentially a holding tank with my system and oil fired boiler and make my boiler fire and run more often. Maybe I’m misunderstanding how they work though. I’d like to have setup done though; my house is a long laid out one floor setup with the guest bath and master bath over 100 feet from the hot water heater and boiler.

I've got one in my house and I have mixed feelings about it. I like it because fast hot water to the bathroom. I don't like it because it makes the water heater cycle on and off all day even when hot water isn't being used. The timer function was pretty useless in my case because I work from home and the pump would have to run all day. My compromise was to plug the pump into a smart plug connected to an alexa. Now if I want fast hot water I can say "alexa turn on the hot water." That makes the pump run for 1 minute and then shuts off. Someday I'm going to figure out a bathroom occupancy sensor and make it automatic.

That’s my thought exactly. It would make my hot water heater run constant and that would require my oil boiler to fire off nonstop. I do like the idea of a pump that I can trigger on and off.

So basically you install a crossover tube between hot and cold water line furthest from your water heater. When temp drops below certain level the crossover tube opens up. Once water gets to temp in the line crossovertube closes.

If you have electric the tank cycles on and off regardless. Like i said it might make slight difference since you are heating the water in the line, but not significant.

My water heater is one of those high efficiency natural gas models. Every time it starts a little fan runs the entire time. I plugged the water heater and pump into a Kill-a-watt to get an idea of the energy usage and by proxy the natural gas expense as well. My house was built with pex and an insulated loop running to each of the fixtures. The electricity to run the pump and water heater during waking hours was $40+/year. I say $40+ because the measuring the natural gas usage was more work than I was willing to do. The whole idea of running what amounts to a radiant heater in my unfinished basement just bugged my cheep ass. Most normal people would just pay the $3/month and be happy.

Do you have both the domino tools from Festool? You use both if so? I’m getting ready to get one of them and just taking ideas and opinions on which size is best if you only have one.
