    Does this sound right?

    Engine: Warm

    In park: 750

    In drive, AC on: 750

    In drive, AC OFF: **500-550

This is what concerns me. The 500ish idles. No roughness, no shake, just 500?

Wonderful. I was just wondering. Cause I used to have a vue that would drop to about 450 without AC on when it was in drive. It would then stall. I was just scared that this car was beginning to do the same thing.

So what would abnormally low be for a tacoma's idle in gear?

Haha that makes sense. Thanks. Ill stop looking at it. I'm just getting paranoid. As I am with everything my truck does, guess it's cause I'm used to driving general motors and dodges.

Yeah, I wouldnt sweat it. The V6 regularly idles around 550 when warm. It wont go much lower at all. the lowest I have seen on my UG is 549..

Just for future reference, and because im trying to do more of the simple work on my truck myself, What situation would warrant an IAC valve and throttle body cleaning? When the RPM's become low enough that the engine struggles, or when the RPM's do not raise back up when I put the truck into park or neutral?

If you replace your filter when required, you shouldnt have any IAC issues. AS for the TB, I wouldnt worry about that until near 100k miles.

Good to know. I will be replacing my air filter this summer with a k&n air filter

In that case, plan on cleaning the TB more often. The OEM filter flows very well, and you wont get anything from the K&N other than a washable filter, and oil build up on the TB and other intake components.

    O. Well then. Guessing a k@n would not be the best option for a "set it and forget it " approach. Hmmm.

Interesting. New tidbit here. When coasting in idle, every now and then I get a chirp up in idle speed, jumps about 50-100 rpm, then back down. No shake, no speed increase. Any ideas?

AC/Defroster, and the PS pump have idle up controls. It could be one of those. Or, Simply the engine managment comp doing its thing.

ah. That would explain it. Yea. Sorry for all these posts. As I said before in the thread, I'm coming off a 03 Saturn vue, (cvt), this is the first "real" transmission vehicle i have driven.

Dont be coasting in neutral often with the truck. It can cause the tranny to over heat. And RPM fluctuations of 100 rpm or so are normal.

I meant coasting in gear( drive) not neutral, sorry for not being specific. But sadly I'm not used to transmissions with gears at all, freaked me out when I put the truck from drive into reverse there is that "clunk", not used to that at all, Cvts don't clunk, but they fail every 40 thousand miles, haha

In that case, it may have been the tranny downshifting, like supralight said.
