    If you are, you know they've declared war on adblockers.

    You get a screen saying they've detected an adblocker and you have 2 choices:
    - Disable your adblocker
    - Pay for ad-free YouTube Premium at $14 bucks a month. Screw that :mad:


    So I grudgingly disabled my adblocker and suffered until I found a solution.
    My mute button helped some in the meantime :rolleyes:

    Well, naturally there are folks out there that looked on this as a challenge.
    There are already some alternatives, some easier than others.
    I'm currently using a browser extension called uBlock Origin, install it with a few clicks and it just works :thumbsup:

    Personally, I think it was a stupid thing to do.
    Most people aren't even aware that adblockers exist (I know, hard to believe).
    Well, what do you think happens when there are news articles on the subject?
    News articles that are not just on geeky sites, cuz YouTube is very popular.
    That's right, Joe Schmoe says: "You mean I can block that shit? Really? I didn't know that." :facepalm:

    As I understand it, uBlock doesn't outright block a script, it just ensures you never see the advert.
    Now, YouTube may try to up the ante, but there's a limit to what they can do without breaking their own website.
    We shall see... but I suspect that would just spark an update arms race.
    So far as I can tell, uBlock is very light on computer resources.


    Again, that's uBlock Origin, available for most browsers.


    [edit] Just to be clear, it blocks adverts on all websites, not just YouTube
