Sue good luck with your furry friends.

I've had PT from 2 different techs, one guy was great the other was good but they both had their techunics. First guy did some massage as he stretched you out the other one just stretched you out. That felt like torture. Both got to the same out come, one was less painful. At this age I'm not into S&M, I can wake up some days in more pain than I need.

Hmmm, that puts you right about May of 1957, me too. :)

My wife turned 66 this week and has been more or less retired for three years now, but neither of us are collecting social security; we're thinking to wait until we're 70 to start. The good news is I'm still working, love what I do, am making more than I've ever made before (nearing what the two of us earned combined in our best years).

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/dog lovers. We're more cat people than dog people but at the end of the day we love them all. Sending vibes for those out there who are suffering.

I "went big" yesterday and got THREE pokes at once; C___D, flu, RSV. Injections sites are mildly sore, and I feel a wee bit under the weather, but not so bad that I'm going to change my schedule. Just a little "achy" as the dutchies around here like to say. The pharmacist said she'd have poked me for shingles too, if I had wanted it, but I decided to wait a couple of weeks for that one. I hear it can be a bear.

Waiting until 70 is definitely a very complicated decision. So many variables to consider, including an honest assessment of one's own longevity. My wife started at 66, my dad started as soon as he could (62). Neither have any regrets. I liked the fact that SS goes up 8% every year you wait, so I waited. Just hit 70 this year. I have no regrets either.

I may need to reevaluate after next week; I just got diagnosed with prostate cancer which has started to metastasize. Once I hear what the treatment plan and prognosis is, I may opt to retire earlier than planned. The problem is, as I understand it at least, if I start collecting while I'm working, most of my SS will get taxed, so what's the point.

Shingles shots were actually among the easiest for me. Covid shots were the real killers, horrible reactions to every single one of them. Bad enough that I refuse to get any more of those and I'm just in the recovery process of having Covid for the second time. My reactions to the shots each time actually left me feeling worse than what I feel having it right now. My doctor even told me to not get any additional boosters for that reason.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Going to help make cookies today when the wife finished her library group meeting. She already made a bunch of airplane cookies - for the hangar Veterans Day dance. 70's this morning will be the high. Wind and a cold front this afternoon - but not Arctic; no freeze potential. Just wet and cold.

Need to clean a pot, check the Taco brake fluid (ABS came on, went out after re-starting), and put the umbrellas down before the wind. That's it!

Hope all goes well for Zoie, Sue!

Anybody done a welfare check on Col. Mark? Haven't seen @Devious6 in a while.

I have not gotten the clot shot, probably won't. I have a retired Air Force intelligence analyst buddy studying to be a PA. He got it will in but retired shortly after. During his studies he found out the research studies and ingredients are classified and locked for 10yrs. He's not doing the boosters now either. If it flys in the Air Force he's pretty much been rated except the stealth and SR 71. He's got some helicopter ratings also.

Dale I actually turn 67 end of April my wife took SS at 62. I waited to retire at 65 do to some health concerns and didn't want to get rated on private pay insurance. If I make it to 75 I'll be like bonus.

How did you find the group?
kind of word of mouth. I live in an upscale 55 and over community, all custom homes. The only requirement to live here is at least one person in a residence must be 55 or older. The homes are all custom and on large lots. We a hoa and large lodge with dozens of activities for residents. So it’s easy to make friendships and form groups. The majority of residents are retired. We have a lot of social activities here and and form a lot of friendships. So 3 of us started doing breakfast and before long we had up to 20 in the group. It’s just a great time for old farts to get together , talk old guy stuff and have a good time.

    Afternoon all:
Darn, hate to hear about those with medical problems, wishing for the best outcome for each and every one of you, including Sues furry family member.

Looks like you did a pretty darn good detail job on the radial motor Kurt, I always enjoy the pics. you post of the things you get to play with!

SS to me was a toss-up, if I would have known I would live to be 76 I would have waited till 70 to take it, I took it at 62 hoping I would at least get some return on what I paid in, I wasn't going to roll the dice on the unknown date of departure!

For those thinking of waiting to start SS between 66 and 70 there are some cons you should be aware of. First if you take it at 66 or later it will take 12 to 14 years for you to collect as much total income if you had started at 65. So you’ll be 76 to 78 when you will have collected the same total amount of you had started at 65. Yes each year you wait you will get more monthly income but you will have lost out on the $20,000 to $30,000+ annually you would have collected .
Also at our age our longevity isn’t always that great. You may decide to wait til 70 and die at 69 1/2. In that case after paying into SS for 40+ years you collect zero, nada, zilch. There are other cons too. Even if you don’t need the money you could put the money in the bank or better yet invest it. And of course in some cases there are some pro’s in waiting to collect. In any event it is a big and important decision that a person should consult with a professional financial planner.

I’m sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was diagnosed around 3 years ago with prostate cancer. I was fortunate it was low grade stage 2A. Treated with brachytherapy and the cancer is now undetectable, considered cured , if cancer can ever be considered cured.
Prostate ca. is a slow growing cancer and is very very treatable with multiple treatment options. Even advanced prostate cancer presents with many potentially successful treatment options. Try to stay positive Dale.
As far as collecting SS and working I’ll quote the following - You can earn any amount and not be affected by the Social Security earnings test once you reach full retirement age, or FRA. That's 66 and 4 months if you were born in 1956, 66 and 6 months for people born in 1957, and gradually increasing to 67 for people born in 1960 and later.

Me too, like @Sprig, count me in that "cured" group - but I got radiated. But it's a common cancer in men, and every year the options for treatment grow. It's not a sentence, and with insurance, you should have a good number of options.

It's never a simple choice for taking SS, but for most people, taking at the stated age is simple and effective. Especially if you're still ENJOYING making a good income!

Here's a pic of me and the old guys that re-po'd the motor from me, taken by another old guy! I do enjoy my one day a week, and will maybe squeeze in another next year.

As I was reading this Ken, it was almost like looking in a mirror. I too live in an over 55 community with the same age requirement and we have an HOA (don't agree with some of the rules, but I also won't have a neighbor with 3 junkers on cinder blocks in his driveway) and a clubhouse where we have parties on Holidays as well as the likes of the Kentucky Derby. We have a group that gets together on Wednesday night for dinner, another for Friday Morning breakfast (men) and also Friday night for drinks and whatever you bring to share at the clubhouse. Life is good
