We really enjoy living here, the residents are really nice, good people. Everyone helps everyone else. There’s everything you want at our lodge/clubhouse. There’s a large Olympic size pool (many of us have our own pools), there’s an exercise gym , tennis courts, pickle ball courts, bocce ball. Lots of social events including dinners, entertainment, daily card games and on and on. We to have nights where we get to get together on the patio for wine/drinks and some live music. We have a full time staff that takes care of everything and organizes events etc. The HOA takes care of all the front yards so it always looks nice here. The residents are responsible for our back yards (everyone has a gardener do their back yard). It’s like living in a resort. Very happy here.

I don’t need a car on cinder blocks, but I want the kind of neighbors that do.

Even in my low rent neighborhood, you best be keeping it out back. No excuse for anything but temporary.

There is so much they can do with PC now days. My friend just went through some localized radiation therapy that knocked it down without removal. Please keep positive. There’s a good chance you’ll have a great outcome.

I live in one of those 17 states that taxes SS also. Doesn’t seem right.

Just up the street there's a guy that parks vehicles in his yard... which has never been watered or mowed since he moved in. At the moment he has two Corvairs, two dune buggies, two relatively new Chevy trucks, an old square body Chevy, and a '64/5 T-bird. The vehicles change at random and sometimes disappear only to reappear months later. This in a pretty nice neighborhood with a lot of manicured lawns.
He's the nicest neighbor I know, and would stop to help if he saw you out in the yard doing a heavy job. I know this from personal experience.
The guys in the neighborhood that piddle around with status symbols trying to impress each other... not so much.

When I was speaking with the SS, the SS Representative (Don't know what else to call him) pointed that fact out. I started taking my SS at age 65. The only thing that sucks is the "Windfall Elimination Provision" Because I also get a Pension as a Retired Teacher (30 years) my Social Security payments get dinged 40%!

Should have added....I would have considered buying a new truck - But, for reasons I can't fathom, elected to stop building Access Cab's...I have no use for a 4-door
Forced me to keep this one until either they wise up or I expire :)

Welcome to WEP! My wife is/was a teacher over 20 years, and we have yet to find anyway around this stupid shit! And, in TX, it's even worse.

"Related Content. Congress established the Windfall Elimination Provision ( WEP ) in 1983 to improve the fairness of Social Security by reducing benefits for individuals who would otherwise receive a full benefit based on earnings in Social Security–covered employment as well as pension income from noncovered employment ...

I paid my Self Employment Tax for 10 years honestly and on time, not including all the Social Security Tax for various jobs I had since the day I turned 16. Something is very wrong that my Social Security gets reduced by
40% because I have a Pension as a Teacher. This Old Dude worked for 40 years plus at a variety of jobs.

Welcome to the thread. I have an 09 EX cab and it just keep on ticking.

Good morning, woke up at 04:30 but went back to sleep. Woke up at 6 and stayed up. Going to try and make the Veterans Day ceremony tomorrow. I am usually there but we are leaving for Michigan on Sunday, and I know I will be busy.

@Sprig TY for the reply. I will check our local senior center activities to see if an Old Farts breakfast is offered.

Good morning. My SIL is having a hard time right now, health wise, and it may be due to a duodenal ulcer. She has been in the hospital for almost a week. Her daughter, a nurse, has been with her almost all the time. She is at the hospital that her daughter works at, so my SIL is getting exceptional treatment. We plan on going to Michigan on Sunday to help my niece with anything she needs. Our plan is to drive back home the following Thursday. Going to be a tiring week.

I was in the same situation at 67 with what the doc called a very aggressive form that was inoperable. I decided to take the SS early while working. Here I sit 12 years later, sort of retired, treated medically and doing very well with no further metastasis. I may have been very fortunate in treatment, I don't know. But if I knew then what I know now about the success of treatment, I would have waited. I don't recall exactly what the reduction in benefits was, only that it was rather significant. And you do get taxed on the SS payment, it all kind of stinks.

I think I may have been a bit depressed hearing metastasis and all that, then I jumped the gun. My experience for whatever it may be worth.
