Potentially starting to part out my 3rd gen for sale soon. Curious of peoples opinion on doing that vs selling fully built?

I’m guessing the majority of you have had GPS in all of your previous vehicles. That’s why you are so critical of the one in the Tacomas. This is the first vehicle I have ever had that has a GPS installed from factory and I have to say, I am pleased as hell with mine. It takes me right to the front door of every destination I have ever punched in. I’m sure there are better units out there with more advanced options, for a price, and maybe over time I may feel like an upgrade. But just my 2 cents, I am happy with the OEM unit. Cheers all.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
I've had GPS from the factory in my cars since 2008 in various brands and the one in my Tacoma seems perfectly fine, I'm totally satisfied with it. Maybe those that are unsatisfied haven't set up the preferences to suit their needs.

    I have a 2017 TRD OR.
The date on the head unit is 2016 so that is how old the maps are. Therefore having a dedicated GPS is the way to go. Also, pre-2019 I think don't have CarPlay or AA capability.

This. I’ve used plenty of different nav options over the years and nothing beats Waze from my own device to the Tacoma screen via CarPlay. “Hey Siri, navigate with Waze to the nearest Home Depot”.

If I’m out in the boonies I use Gaia with downloaded maps, also through my phone to the Tacoma screen.

First one for me too. I have always used my phone and happy to have Carplay so I can always leave my phone in my pocket unless on a long trip where i put it on the charging pad that everyone complains about and works fine for me to maintain and very slowly charge it. The ones complaining have newer Tacos I believe.

Reminds me of my 71' Bronco. Very cool look.

Is it just the rotors or do you have to change out the calipers and pads too?
The dealer here uses pads by TCMC which they say are OEM, but create dust like crazy versus what I think is OEM (we have 4 Toyotas between 9k [Tacoma] and 250k miles [4Runner]) so we've done a few brake jobs.

When my Taco brakes need replacing I may upgrade either pads or rotors because, well, brakes are rather important. Or maybe I'm just thinking of more ways to spend money because other than knowing how brakes work I have no expertise with them.

I use my phone currently and plan on mounting an iPad to use for navigation. I rarely use the radio for navigation.

Yep, 2nd time in 6 months. This time a 18 wheeler that fled the scene. Truck still in shop, needs new frame and WHOLE LOT MORE. No ETA on when they will get a frame. Maybe Santa will bring me frame for Christmas. I've been good

I've had nav for several vehicles now. It is as configured as it can possibly be. My hunch is the later (last) headunits in the 3rd gen suck more than the previous units (pre-car play). I've spoken to Toyota and while the issues they say are unique to mine, I've been able to reproduce them in other 2023 Tacos with nav.

    1. Music not muting to announce turn by turn directions. This one is a HUGE problem for me.
    2. When using the mobile phone through the vehicle bluetooth through the radio, the wrong (and totally random) picture is displayed for the contact you are talking to.
    3. ZERO of the USB audio functions work when you have a thumbdrive with a lot of songs on it. You can't pick a folder, play an album, an artist, etc. As soon as you select any of those menu options it plays the first track in the first folder every time.

What I don't know at this point is are these issues with the JBL radios, "premium audio" radio, standard radio, etc. While I was told "a future firmware update COULD fix the issues" there hasn't been a firmware update since last year and I don't anticipate one in the near future.
