And IMO one more thing to fail and have to maintain. The market is already showing that the EV/Hybrid system vehicles are not holding their resale value as strong as others. That is not surprising knowing you are buying half or less battery life.

Allegedly. We still haven’t seen any mpg numbers yet.

The people that will benefit the most from these will be the dealer service departments.

Toyota hybrids have proven themselves for reliability, though I can see why they don’t have good resale value, since you have a battery replacement cost looming. The Tacoma/Tundra hybrid looks like a pissing contest in the arms race of who has the most power. Can’t see why they can’t have both, one for the insecure chest beating crowd, and another for the practical consumer looking for better efficiency.

That new Ramcharger looks a great approach to the problem, too bad it is a Ram.

All this electric/hybrid talk makes me want to double down and get another low mileage, non rusty first gen to last me until I die.

I'm getting old and I used to LOVE cars.. I'm at the point now where I just don't really care about any of it any longer... To me it's all BS.

We all need the latest gadget, tech, or feature and then wonder why so many people are struggling to make ends meet. I bought my truck to last a long time ..... Those days are fading....folks treat vehicles as 5 year throw away items

It will probably also cost $90K.

Many don’t even keep them that long. Just lease for 3 years then move on to the next. Never ending car payments.

10-15 years from now when we are full EV, we're going to say "Remember when we had those noisy gas engines that had noxious fumes and you had to go to gas stations to fill up. I'm so glad we can get a charge from home/office/parking lots and not have to go out of our way to a "station" (except on road trips)."

I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot longer than that before the majority have switched to EVs.

We can also talk about all the cool places we used to explore that are now mineral mines. “I remember when that used to be a mountain…” hey but at least my truck zero tailpipe emissions… :)

The recent closures in Moab are being blamed on environmentalist, but I wonder if the proposed lithium mine to the West of the area has more to do with it.

I have one of those, just tossed a new engine in. While I don’t really care about the lastest greatest gadgetry, my 3rd Gen sure does drive awfully nice. It is real apparent when I jump back and forth between the two. To the point I don’t even like doing short couple mile grocery store runs in the ‘99.

While my interest in vehicles has wained in recent years, do like the comfort and convenience of newer vehicles. Was an old curmudgeon until I finally broke down after 20 years and bought a new truck.

No longer want to keep things forever, going to trade in when the warranty is up. More out of tired of trying to keep old crap going than anything.

    I know right!?

The whole thing for me about getting efficiency is to spend less money in the overall cost of ownership. Don’t see the point of the massive upcharge just to save a little on gas. Which is moot on the Tacoma, will have an upcharge with very little if any gain in fuel consumption.

Love my Tacomas, but think the mpgs are piss poor.

Same .. I gave my first gen to my son....

He traded it in for a 3rd gen..

I do like my truck...it's growing on me...it's still taken almost 4 years for me to settle into it and even still I find myself wanting it to be a bit smaller like the gen1. I still have no damn idea where the front end is in relation to the vehicle in front of me .. it's so damn big

My wife wanted it, so she is the main driver. Tried talking her into new RAV4, she didn’t want to spend the money, and really doesn’t need a new vehicle for her 3 mile round trip commute. I wanted to sell because I am beyond over it, yet here I am still fussing with it. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck. At least now I take it to the dealer to get worked on, absolutely done crawling around spinning wrenches on the damn thing.

Even with a brand new engine, it still breaks down, just had the fan bracket bearings fail. Apparently that wasn’t on the list to replace, that whole thing was $1600. Engine and a few other things was $15K, while it was in learned it needed $2500 of driveshaft work too. Had a private shop rebuild that thing a few years ago and they screwed it up. So now will only go to the dealer.

Took me 6 months to come to terms with the 3rd, like you still can’t seem to park in a slot correct, always too far right…even when I over correct. Not sure why I do that, used have my CDL and drove trucks much larger than the Taco. Started to hang my head out the window to see the lines, and think why I am doing this for such a small truck?

Or you can look at it like this, you spend a bit more for just under double the power of the V6 from the year before and get better fuel mileage than the V6. See how there's not a pessimist view :p

Get some stick on blind spot mirrors for your mirrors then you can see the parking space lines when you park. Works awesome. Same with parallel parking.

Power or the current V6 is more than enough for my needs. Don’t see the point of the hybrid other than a dick measuring contest. More power for what??? 5-10 minutes if you have it floored. And really shouldn’t be racing on the streets anyways. Not being pessimistic just realistic. Some people confuse the two.

Doesn’t really work for pulling into spots though. Tailgate camera works great for backing up.
