This thing is still working on earning a name, but right now I'm kicking around either Carlos or White Rice.

Anyway, most of this first post is cross-posted from another forum because I need to go cook dinner, but I'll prob fix it later. Here:

This is in my driveway and I’m having mild panic attacks about it being my problem now. So, build thread.

    tacoma.jpg

    Cool stuff:

    2000 supercharged 3RZ, 5spd, 4.7 (supposedly) tacobox
3 linked wagoneer D44 that probably has been narrowed, on 2” sway-a-away coilovers.
Stock rear with some kinda full float disc brake kit and god knows what springs.
4.88s and ARBs front and rear
    10k warn winch

    Not cool stuff:

Frame is pretty rotted from the cab mounts back. Left spring hanger is no longer attached, right spring hanger is barely hanging on. Same for both shackle mounts.
    Link geometry is retarded.
The front pinion angle is ridiculous.
It’s fucking TERRIFYING on the road. Steering wheel and brake pedal only provide suggestions to the truck. I thought I was going to die when I got on the highway to drive it home.
    It leaks from everywhere.
    Interior is horrendously gross.
Drivers rocker panel is see through (but the rest of the body, including the bed, is somehow not totally crusty)

I believe I’m the third owner. First owner built it, folded the front axle under the truck, then sold it to the guy I bought it from. He fixed it and has wheeled it for like 10 or 15 years, but other than major stuff has not taken care of it. It kinda bums me out how neglected the truck is considering all the money that went into it.

Current plan is to do the cool thing with a square tube frame behind the cab, make the steering and brakes not life threatening, and then look at trying to get the front end a little more street friendly. The goal for this is to be able to drive it to all the parks around here and drive it home.

The biggest learning curve for me right now is the supercharger. I THINK it's a TRD unit from way back in the day (not powdercoated black), it's got a URD small pulley on it, and the engine doesn't run very well. It's not hurt, just needs some tuning.

Anyone have a manual or a "these are all the different kinds of 3RZ superchargers that are out there, and here's how to keep them healthy" guide?

It's a self caused panic attack, lol. Hopefully you got it for free... I'm surprised you drove it home with all the rot and broken pieces.

Highly doubt you got full float rear. You probably got TG rear brake setup and lost your ebrake function unless PO did the tcase brake.

Look like you got 37 in the front and 35 rear?

If the link geometry is fawk, nothing you can do to fix it unless you cut it off and redo it from the ground up. At that point, might be easiest and easier to just leaf the front, lol.

Had to get it home somehow, don't have a trailer. It's KY, after all... It's actually got my old 33s off my 4Runner in that pic. The 37s that it came on didn't all hold air, and my flanged lug nuts bottomed out on stud shank before they clamped the 5 stars to the front hub, so it came home Carolina squatted. It'll probably end up on some cheap 35s near term, with bigger, better tires to come once I get some seat time with it.

It's definitely a full float conversion. Has giant hubs and what looks like LC drive flanges ...and the leaking seal to go with them. It does not have a functioning parking brake at the moment, but that's a later problem.

For the time being I'm going to shorten the upper link (it's currently 5" longer than the lowers), which will get the uppers and lowers closer in length, improve the pinion angle, and give me some positive caster. Eventually I'll cut the frame off at the firewall and start over but that's probably a year or more out. Fixing the rear frame is item 1 on the list though.

I'll get some tomorrow, I'm parked on the couch and it's cold out haha. But yeah, think it's a stock housing, with a tundra/T100 3rd, and a "fulton" (according to the dude I bought it from) full float conversion, supposedly uses mini truck front discs and celica calipers. I assume it's FROR, but haven't really dug into it yet. It'll be a driveway ornament through the spring at least.

FROR is the only fab company I'm aware of but uses mini brake components. Non-trd tacoma will utilize the same 8.4 centered from t100 to early tundra.

The original TRD dealer installed 3RZ Supercharger was made by a company called Alpine in South Africa. LC Engineering I believe bought the license to manufacture the design, and they do to this day. They are both identical.

It uses an Eaton... MP62? blower. It's quite undersized for this engine, and underperforms unless you run a tune via a standalone like a Haltech or a Megasquirt. The stock computer cannot be tuned, nor is it capable of running this blower correctly. I have one on my truck, and it ran a lot better with an AEM FIC 6 piggyback and methanol injection, but it's no alternative to a true standalone.

Running the larger 2001-2004 Pink 3RZ fuel injectors will help you slightly to correct the poor fueling the stock brown 1995-2000 fuel injectors provide, or you can try running an adjustable FPR.

It is painfully slow on my truck, that being said I have an auto rather than the 5-speed. It's a little more alive with the 5-speed. By now you're most likely due for a rebuild (bearings, rotor teflon, seals, oil, etc.) I'd consider sending it to Jon Bond Performance.

To solve your running issues I'd make sure it's producing boost correctly and pulling vacuum stable (looking at a boost gauge) I'll bet your issue lays somewhere else like rotted vacuum lines, or maybe your engine is just in need of a tune up.

Great info, thanks for all of that. I need to do some more digging to figure out what this truck actually has on it.

I'm going to assume it needs all of the above, given how neglected it is. Is a supercharger rebuild something a youtube-certified master mechanic with an engineering background could take on? Jon Bond sounds like the fast and good route, but that's a $1k service. Is there a good and cheap way to get there?

Looks like brown injectors and I don’t think I saw a 5th injector - that would be hanging off the back of the intake by the firewall?

Also is this an 8 or 4 port head?

Wild guess would be it's FROR minus the Celica calipers? Hopefully there's an inline proportional valve for the rear brake.

No wonder it runs bad, you have a massive vacuum leak. Check out the hose that's not going anywhere in your picture. Unless your power steering was eliminated, which I guess makes sense with the SAS.

    Double check your vacuum lines.

    Here is it routed correctly:

You can do it yourself - sort of, if you can find a rebuild kit. High Speed Labs used to sell them for the larger 5VZ blower, but they discontinued them. That being said, the needle bearings in the back of the case are hard to reach without special tooling, and you are not equipped to re-teflon the rotors. This is a service I'd leave to a professional.

It is much harder to find parts and info for this supercharger, it's a lot less common than the 5VZ counterpart. The Eaton rotors are uncommon too, I have had trouble finding any info on them. I think it's an MP62... or 63... or M62. I don't remember.

Unless you're talking about an open port I missed, which wouldn't be a stretch, that big 3/8" fuel hose that's just laying open is how old boy decided to terminate the front diff vent line (I guess I should be thankful he extended the vent at all), but this is a helpful pic for when I do get a chance to go chase vacuum lines.

For ports - this is a newb question but are 2000 3RZs supposed to be 4 or 8 port? I thought the 8 ports ended in 99.

Edit: https://209yota1.com/tech-tips/2rz3rz-engine-model-verification/ yeah this says I should have individual coil packs and a 4 port intake, but I've got dual coils and an 8 port intake, yet the VIN is for a 2000 model. Now I get to wonder if homeboy swapped in an older model engine.

I’ll have to watch this video when I get home but it’s got a big KYTTORA decal on the rear window. If you have links to an old build thread or more info about it I’d love to know more about its history

I think his username was Hagan34 on ttora. Back window look like this? If so, I'm sure it is. I think the guy selling was asking 6k last I saw, but the rust kind of scared me away.

Damn, that’s a blast from the past.

I was SUPER pissed when I broke the back window out of my truck and lost the old school SE TTORA sticker
