I run 30wt too and it is in fact much quieter.
I tried 40wt when I did a cross Canada/USA trip in the summer loaded up. It was about the same noise level, maybe marginally quieter but even unloaded it felt like the engine had a load on it.

I feel with the oil cooling system 30wt is ideal year round and unless you're towing/hauling at the top limits all the time and at high ambient temperatures, the oil cooler system will keep the oil temperature at a good level for 30wt oil to provide ideal protection for all operating conditions

Why are you using Amsoil signature and changing on such short intervals?

Nothing like a Saudi owned Valvoline lubricant in a Japanese truck made in Mexico and sold in the US. That is globalization.

Just when my analysis kits happened to come in. I’ll never go over 7k though regardless

True, good old times are over. Although I had no idea Valvoline was Saudi origin

I run Costco/Kirkland 0w-10 in all 3 of our vehicles: 2021 Tacoma, 2018 Forester, 2018 Corolla. It is very convenient only having to keep 1 weight on hand and can get on sale for $30/case (2 5-qt jugs). Change on a regular schedule and it will not matter what you are running as long as it meets specs.

For the OP: not sure if this was mentioned (I’m not going to read 7 pages to find out), but research shows that Mobile provides Toyota Corp with their signature oil. FWIW, I’m a very OCD helicopter pilot who follows mechanical directions to the T, after matching the exact “Toyota oil” specs, I just switched to Mobile 1 at 30k miles for a significant cost savings. When it’s time to service your diffs & TX case, Amsoil Severe Gear is worth it if you offroad your truck.

Didn’t blow up last year. And I do yearly oil changes or 10k. And my other 3 cars didn’t blow up the last 3 years since I’ve used this oil.

I do 5k oil change intervals. It's an easy number to remember. A few years back, I just switched over to SuperTech or Costco's Kirkland oil.
Both are made by Warren Petroleum and you're not paying for company advertising. At one point, I had a VW with a 1.8 turbo that required VW spec'd 5w-40 oil.
Talk about a PITA to find around town.

Where I don't cheap out is on oil filters. I either buy OEM or WIX.

There are some great You Tubers that cover this. I enjoy the "Project Farm" guy.

Then there's always BITOG (BobIsTheOilGuy) website where you can spend hours/days/weeks reading. :)

Any oil will do great if you change every 5k miles, but do it sooner if its all city or large amounts of offroad driving. I personally run Amsoil in everything except transfer case because they don't make anything for that application. I choose Amsoil for a couple reasons. I have run their products for over 30 years in everything from vehicles to tractors, chainsaws, blowers and other farm equipment and never had a single issue. What really sells me on it is that it flows better in the deep freeze in winter than any other oil and since most wear occurs at start-up the faster it flows the better. The other reason is that I have a commercial account and get it for a very reasonable price. If I did not run Amsoil I would run Pennzoil Ultimate Platinum.

I was joking. Interval is most important imo. Any synthetic oil will protect these engines if keep filter and oil in it changed. I just prefer how smooth mine runs with Amsoil personally and if I’m not able to change it at 5 or 6k I don’t have to sweat it

Amazes me that people are religious about oil change maint./options, but they do not go to a dentist or seek an annual health checkup. I know people like this!

Cheap oil and too long of intervals can lead to sludging. Don't be cheap.

2018 with 100k miles. Not mine. Of course the truck still ran because Toyota, but there was smoke on start and oil consumption. If you get an injector leak and don't notice, it's far better to be on a 5k oil change interval than a 10k.

I'll admit this is probably rare but decent oil is not expensive. Just one random dude on the internet giving his opinion.

That not too long of intervals, that’s no intervals at all. Even Mobil 1, redline, and Amsoil will do that if not changed. Price and quality of oil doesn’t mean jack if its not changed. And that pic isn’t letting it go for 10k miles. That is never changing the oil.

Dayum. Did he provide any context like oil change intervals and oil used for that engine?

It was 10k oil changes supposedly. I'm interested in pulling my valve covers at 100k just to take a look.
