Hello all... New Tacoma owner here. I have an 03 with the 6'bed and am looking for a tonneau cover and/or mounting thing on it. There is no track or bed rails that I can see. She has a plastic OEM bedliner. Is there a solution where I can add the track? I cannot seem to find anything on line. Thanks for your help!

I'm guessing you have an over the rail bed liner. You'll probably have to remove it or replace it with a under the rail variety.

You'd have to drill into the body to mount rails or use something that doesn't require them

Maybe I'm not clear on what you are trying to accomplish here. The truck does have an over the rail bed liner and you are wanting to install a tonneau cover on the bed....is that correct? I don't know what you.mean by "mounting thing".

The tonneau cover I have (not on this truck) comes with rails that clamp to the inside of the bed rail, similar to the clamps that a camper shell might use. If you were to use the same style tonneau it would require removal of that bed liner, or, replacing it with an under the rail bed liner.

Wtf, the first gen does have bed rails (see photo) haha. That is a bed rail in the photo and that inner face of the bed rail is where the tonneau cover hardware clamps to on my other truck. So what exactly is the problem? Maybe a clearer explanation from the OP, including the specific parts he wants to install would be helpful. He is using what's called an "over the rail" bed liner, that is limiting some mounting options.

I purchased my 03 DC used. it has an over the rail bed liner with a cover on it. It has access holes in the bed liner for the clamps to install. Don't know if it was factory made this way, or if the original owner cut the holes for the clamps. Either way, it works fine for me.

^^^This indeed. I have had a few trucks with over the rail bed liners. A 2-1/2 or 3" hole saw, buzz holes where you want to put your clamps. Just make sure to measure and look over everything several times before you cut.

Thats exactly what Im gonna do... Cut where the clamps are going to go on the actual top bar of the bed which is under the cover. Simple, just needed to talk it out.... Thanks!

Mine doesn't have the over-rails bed liner and came with a perfectly color matched tonneau, it was the first thing to go. Sold in the first week, mounted it on the buyer's truck in the driveway, and away it went. Other than MPG performance on the highway and protection from random theft they make no sense to me. I don't drive far enough to gain any MPG performance and don't store anything valuable in the bed.
