I am trying to put on a Westin brush guard and to do this I have to slide it onto the frame bolts which go through the crash bar. However I am at a loss on how the hell to take these off? I do not have dad strength but have tried all different methods besides an impact wrench and I am worried that I will round off the edges of the bolt if I keep trying.:bananadead:

It's less Tacoma and more mod
6 point sockets are your friend. Much less chance of rounding anything off. And you might need dad strength or at least a cheater bar

Yes 6 point for this, also soaking with a little liquid wrench may not be a bad idea. Impacts can be very helpful

A good impact with a 6 point impact socket really no chance in rounding bols off unless you use wrong socket. Maybe a little Heat on it if you still wanna go old school and do it manually

Seeing the overspray of undercoating and other rust on various spots, I bet the ends of the bolts exposed are corroded and swelled up.

So, a thread lubricant/penetrating oil and a 6-point socket is your best bet. Best case the bolts just snap in half and you can remove and install new ones with some anti-seize.

6 points as everyone said and breaker bar. Those nuts are quite snug.

honestly anything on a Toyota, use 6 point sockets. When those nuts/bolts get old they build up some surface corrosion and start to round with 12 pt in anything with a higher torque. I rarely use 12 points anymore with anything if I can help it. I’ll use them if it’s a new nut/bolt or it’s all I have.

I vote for PB Blast. Put it on the bolts a couple days prior, so it can soak.

I tried using a normal open end wrench but that is what rounded the oversprayed bolt. (ignore the overspray ) I will go out in my
pajamas and pb blast the hell out of them. I don’t have an impact but my neighbor does so I can borrow that from him tommorow.

^Open end wrench? WTF? You don't need an impact, just a 14mm deep socket on a breaker bar or long ratchet.

WD40 is your friend. Any penetrating oil will help. I will try to tighten stubborn nuts to max torque and see if that helps. But give the solvent time to work.

So I learned a valuable lifelong lesson tonight that I will surely remember for the rest of my life! Turning the bolts the right way helps a lot. Simple solution everyone :D (Feel free to hit me with your best one liners about my mistake. )Thank you all for your advice!!

My knuckles hurt just reading that.

A 6-point socket and ratchet will do it.
The only thing you need a “wrench” for is leverage.

These is what I use for extremely stuck stuff. If it needs to be got with a wrench because a socket won’t work, the extender has been very good. So good I consider it in my top 5 favorite tools.

I used those 2 together with a 15” chain wrench for a stuck hydraulic cylinder gland nut. I had to do a pull up and bounce at the same time but it loosened.

Op, yeah my brain just can’t comprehend when it’s upside down. So I grab a ratchet clearly marked on/off. Put my feet where I’m going to stand, flip the ratchet upside down, now I know how to do it.

I got one of those - for me, I got it primarily to use with wrenches as torque adapters. I wish they sold two versions, since to use it for counterclockwise orientation, the "socket" side has to be on the "backside" of the wrench (as you're looking at it), so sometimes there can be clearance issues when working close or in tight areas.
